Last year I was sent an Email by the producer of Bizzare Foods to see if I wanted to consult and re-enact our ancestor, Juan Ponce de Leon, Discoverer of Florida.
I wrote the book, Juan Ponce de Leon His New And Revised Genealogy, yes, I am a historian, genealogist a visual arts painter and a photographer.
So, I did some historical consulting on what foods Juan Ponce de Leon brought with him to Florida during his first voyage and got to take some nice photographs in the process.
Andrew Zimmern and I
Sounds good, although I suspect some of the food he brought on that long voyage was not in the gourmet category.
Was he the Johnny Apple Seed guy - with orange seeds?
Thanks!
Believe it or not, he combined traditional Taino roots, fruits, coconuts, codfish, small animals, such as hutias and other mammals, as well as turtles. It was combined with European sheep, cattle meat etc.
Better fare than Columbus brought with him to the Caribbean.
