Beautiful capture of an interesting place, Graham!
It was set up in the early 1900's, the station was run by a Norwegian company. In the early 1920's it was taken over by Lord Leverhulme until 1929 when it closed. It reopened for a brief period in the 1950's.
Originally there were four chimneys, part of the wharf can be seen as well as the concrete bases of the buildings.
An excellent photo and the story behind it! Wow, I did not know that a whaling station existed in the UK. Up until know I though that I had complete knowledge of everything (LOL).
