Why not consider the Nikon 200-500?
I have a budget of about 1200 isn’t the Nikon lens more expensive
This is the 2nd post like this I have responded to today on UHH, so there is a lot of interest in reasonably priced wildlife / birding lenses. After a lot of research, I ended up with the Tamron 150-600mm f5-6.3 G2, but it's not for everyone. If you want something that is sharp out of the box that you won't have to play with and will hold it's value then buy the Nikon 200-500mm. I picked the Tamron G2 because it is lighter than both the Sigma Sport and Nikon with a similar IQ and is 100mm longer than the Nikon. Some reviews say the Nikon is a tad sharper than both the Tamron and Sigma. I was disappointed when I first got the G2 and ended up sending back to Tamron along with my D7200 body for "calibration". It wasn't much better when I got it back. I ended up buying the Tap-In and learned how to tune the lens at 18 different points (3 distances and 6 zoom factors). After tuning, I am very happy with the lens. I have come to the conclusion that while 3rd party zooms are capable of good IQ, but you will have to work for it with tuning. At least you can tune them. Nikon glass is pretty good out of the box. I have 1/2 dozen Nikon primes and zooms and 4 of the 6 benefited from tuning. You can tune them with AF fine-tune if your body has this feature, but the Nikons were not near as far off as some of the zoom factors at certain distances in the Tamron. In fact, my guess is they released the Tap-In and USB Dock because of complaints about lack of sharpness, which can be fixed with tuning.

The BEST lens for your D3400 would be the Nikon 200-500 5.6. Below is a grab shot taken with this lens. It has an excellent consumer rating. Most of my friends who USED to own Sigma and Tamron lenses rave about how much better the Nikon was and say they wish they had bought the Nikon first.
Look for a refurbished version from of either the Nikon 200-500mm or the 15-600mm Tamron (which I have). I bought through Amazon from Beach Camera. No problems, like the lens and it was significantly cheaper than new.
Right now, the Nikon is going for about $1,400, which, if you need to buy now, is only 200 over, which somehow you should be able to "stretch" for. If you can be patient, you could either save for the extra $200, or wait for another one of Nikon's sales which often bring prices down at least $200. (In May, they often have discounts.)

I have a friend who just purchased this lens for his Nikon d750. He has only shot it a few times. And now wants to switch to Sony mirrorless. He is selling a basically new Nikkor 200-500 for $1200 I believe. Contact me and I can get you in contact with him. I believe the 200-500 will give you more consistent autofocus accuracy.
Wow gorgeous image I’d love to on this lens. I’m doing a ton of video at the moment and my money has gone into that .

When I got my Sigma 150-600 Sport, I looked at the original Tamron, the Sigma Contemporary, and found the Sport to be much closer in performance to my Nikkor 600mmF4 than the other two. Right behind the Sport was the Nikkor 200-500 - which was decent, not quite as sharp as the Sport , but better than the other Sigma and Tamron. The build quality on the Nikkor was the deal breaker for me, and I am accustomed to taking a lens into less than optimal conditions. Since my purchase I have evaluated the Tamron G2 - and my takeaway is that it is a match to the Sport, similar build quality, almost 2 lbs lighter, and were it not for the easy-to-accidentally-change buttons and switches, would be my first choice in this focal length range. I have yet to look at the Sigma 60-600, but it does seem to be a lot like the Sport.

As someone who has used the (older) Tamron and also owned a Sigma Sport, I would suggest the Nikon 200-500. The Nikon is the one I own at the moment. Best of luck.

Taken with the Tamron G2 on a D500.
