I've read mixed reviews on the New "JPEG to RAW AI" app by Topaz. Here's my first test. The first picture is the original JPG that was given to me. The second is after processing in "JPEG to RAW AI" with minor tweaking in Lightroom. Interesting.
Could you post the first as "original" so I can download it. I think I can duplicate the effect with a simple Lightroom adjustment.
How can an 8 bit image be transformed into a 16 bit image and called 'raw'????
A raw file is a sensor capture with minimal processing.
A JPG is a (camera) processed image WITH lossy compression.
Sorry but this is another marketing ploy to get your $$$

Attached. I'm not a Lightroom guru, but I can come close with Lightroom-only adjustments. Can't get quite the same detail. Will be interested in seeing what a real Lightroom expert can do.

Of course it is not RAW. What they are providing is the conversion from 8-bits to 16-bits so that one can get more resolution in their adjustments.
I suspect that I could do much the same thing in Photoshop, which has the means to do the 8-bit to 16-bit conversion. What the unknown is, is just what the AI portion of it is doing? I have been using Topaz AI Clear and like what it is able to do with an image, and I suspect that they are doing something similar with this product. That being the case, it might be difficult to exactly duplicate using just Photoshop.

I have the same first impression. I look at the murky
image and KNOW that I've fixed up such images that
were jpeg-only, no raw file available.
It's possible that the jobs I've already accomplished
might have gone faster or easier with the Topaz SW
but thaz idle speculation.
I don't care that they should have chosen a different
name for their product, if the product is useful. The
name they used provided plenty of very entertaining
photo forum outrage, so I thank them for the fun.
I don't have Lightroom, but here's what a quick run
thru an ancient version [3.0 !] of Elements got me.
It's a quick and dirty. I did NO area selections, just
worked the whole frame at once. Selecting areas to
work on would step it up a few notches !

Agree. I suspect Topaz's "A.I. Gigapixel" also uses a similar technology.

All that geeky outrage doesn't matter
if the product is useful and affordable.
.
#2 is a definite improvement over the original, don't care how it was done.

Thank you for thinking of me as a "real" Lightroom expert. That said, it is the central point of my photographic and videographic addiction.
I tried to see if I could match yours.
Not convinced that I need this product since I shoot in Raw

My thought too (but I have Ps CS6).
Well, you got a good result.
Just a question. not looking for a big debate. This looks to me as an increase in color correction, contrast and brightness. The images should have been put in the Download so that it was informative.
Thanks for sharing.
