Looking for used in good condition
Look at the used equipment dealers. KEH, Usedphotopro, MPB, B&H, Adorama, etc etc etc.
What does "ISO" mean here?

In Search Of.
Not a very good acronym to use in a photography site, in my opinion.
YES HAVE BEEN CHECKING ALL OF ABOVE, except not KEH yet... also ebay.
Also may be open to the Sigma 17-50 2.8 it has very good reviews and price point a bit better.
The Tamron starts to slide a bit quality-wise, and sometimes has AF issues with Canon, from what I'm reading.
I agree ISO is kind of funny to use here... but it's an acceptable acronym. :)
I would absolutely go with the Canon. It has the focus scale in a window, which signifies it is a USM that offers real, full-time manual focus ability without switching it off of AF. Just set camera for back-button-focus. I hunted up an EF-S 17-85 USM for this reason. Not all USMs are the same.
I have four of this type of USM and I won't buy anything else.
17-85 huh? that sounds interesting. didn't know there was one... I imagine it might be out of my budget. Yes, I use back button focus.
I don't know alot about USMs at all. I borrowed the Canon 18-55 2.8 for a shooting trip and really liked it. I have an older kit lens Canon 3.5 18-55 but really liked the 2.8 and focus, etc.
Thanks for your input. I've seen some these Canon on ebay, they are going for about $380 on bidding wars, sometimes a little more.
Yep, EF-S 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS USM. Traded for it at MPB.com Right now they have one Excellent Condition for $104.00. Real nice lens.
hmm, not real fast though - was hoping for a 2.8.... but a good deal... thanks! I go there quite often... in fact, have traded in a few things, too, and purchased. Will check it out.
