Re: IndyHarold, FZ300. I too own a panasonic lumix FZ300. I am very satisfied. It has a zoom lens that has the 35mm equivalent of 600mm. The lens has a steady f2.8 aperture throughout its entire length. It shoots jpegs and raw. It is very light (11/2 pounds.) Despite its tiny sensor, image quality is good. (The lower the ISO the better). It sells new for around $400. Davidb1879.
David, Your's is not a bad camera. That's the trouble with these kind of topics generally everybody has a favorite mainly because they spent the money. I find the 1" sensor does better than the smaller ones. The 'studying and searching' I mention will bear this out. Rule no. 1 is if you like it and have enough money to upgrade and think you don't have to. Then you own the right camera.
I have the Canon SX50 HS but wanted something that would fit a pocket. I chose the DMC-ZS100. Darned handy little thing!
When a photographer get's tired of lugging around a dslr along with it's heavy lens, the next best thing is a good super zoom with a 25-600 equiv. lens with good image quality, all in one unit.
I have the fine little LUMIX FZ-200. Try Googling Graham Houghton, he has published a wealth of info on the LUMIX Series. Lot’s of tricks & tips I’m sure you’ll find helpful.
Thank you. I'm always willing to learn.
I was in similar situation 6-8 months ago and narrowed my choices to Lumix FZ300 vs FZ1000. Cut to the chase....both are great cameras. I chose the FZ1000 mostly because of the 1” sensor and the balance I experienced. The FZ300 has some advantages and the FZ1000 has others. For me the FZ1000 hit the mark for me and I have had zero remorse. I know the FZ300 would have been great, also...just preference. IMHO you will not go wrong with a Lumix Bridge. I was also comparing the Sony RX10 but even if all was equal in features, etc. the Lumix almost half the price and much better menus and more intuitive. Good Luck with your choice.
RX10 does nothing to the FZ generation of cameras.
