Most of us love Pizza, including myself. Tomorrow is National Pizza Day. There are 3 Billion Pizzas ordered, and 1 Billion frozen pizzas sold annually in the USA. Pizza Hut and Papa John's are the top leading sellers. Pepperoni is the most favored topping. The first Pizzeria to open in the USA was Gennaro Lombardi in 1895. There is a debate as to whether New York Style Pizza is better than Chicago Style Pizza. One of Chicago Style Pizzas is their deep dish pizza. A friend who visited home in Chicago, brought me about 1/4 of that pizza. I needed a knife and fork to eat it. It had plenty of cheese, I must admit. I prefer regular crust. Some like thin crust. I like pepperoni and sausage. If, you are lucky enough to have a family Italian Restaurant in your community or area. That is your best option for an authentic pizza.

Mmmmmmmm, Pizza!
I eat Waaaaay to much pizza, and it’s still not enough!
Lombardi's Pizzeria actually opened in 1905, not 1895, as stated in my opening post. Lombardi's is located at 32 Spring Street, (corner of Mott Street) New York NY 10012. The first pizza was supposedly made in 1889. It was made of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil, to represent the colors of the Italian flag.
How ironic!! Tony Pizza (pronounced Piza) a long time teacher, asst. football coach and track coach at my high school was buried today. He was 96. He was the assistant track coach to my Dad until Dad became the a.d. Afterwards, Mr. Pizza became the head track coach. He always had a smile on his face and was every bit a gentleman.
