My shutter speed settings have gone haywire. I'll set shutter and aperture, take my shot, and the shutter speed immediately (after the shot) changes to whatever it feels like. Sometimes a thousandth, sometimes a fiftieth, sometimes all the way up to maximum. It's a 3-year-old D610 that has seen good use but not so much lately. I've had shooter's ennui. But I was just down at the beach and noticed how it was jumping right after my exposure. Any ideas or should I just send it to the kind folks at Nikon?

Do a factory reset before sending it in.

Did you somehow turn on bracketing?
What's the Nikon equivalent of colonoscopy?

The shutter speeds were fluctuating much too wildly for it to have been the result of accicently turning on auto ISO or bracketing.

I will do the factory reset. Good suggestion.

First, try the two button reset on the D610. If this does not work call the techs at Nikon first for other fix ideas BEFORE you send it in. 1-800-645-6687

Whatever it is, the preparation has got to better better than the prep for a human colonoscopy.
I'm betting the reset will not solve the problem.

Don't bet the ranch Jerry! I had a similar problem with a D600 and reset cured it.

having just done the prep for a colonoscopy this past week, nothing is worse. I did the reset and loaded in new firmware and everything seems fine. thanks.

I'm happy to hear that your camera is working properly again. As far as the other thing goes, "been there, done that".
