I buy that way often, sometimes ya get lucky, sometimes not! Would be interesting to pin it down, esp. since there seems a temp relationship also.

Yup … I also bought a used Pentax lens for the same price I paid for the Sony … never had a problem!!!!

"A temp relationship" - Mikey? ... what DO you mean?

This one's been on the back burner, for me, for quite some time. Since it's available in Sony a-mount, and the newer Tamron 18-400 is only available in Canon and Nikon mounts, I've been considering it. But, both the reviews, and comments here, regarding this lens, have been a mixed bag. Sony lenses are quite pricey, and thus - apart from those I already have (18-55 SAM II, 16-105 DT, 18-250 DT) chances are, I won't be getting anymore (apart from a macro or two) but this is one Third Party lens, I keep coming back to, again and again. It's wide enough for most applications where one needs a Wider Length, but only if that 16mm REALLY IS 16mm. But, I suspect it really isn't. So, I am interested to hear from those who have it, use it, and have figured out what it really IS, on the wide end. Also, I'd like to hear your reflections about its performance on the long end, too. Of course, I am considering it for my Sony SLTs, but if you have it on a Nikon or on a Canon - I'd also like to hear your reflections. Best money you ever spent on a lens, or no?

I meant to type "temperature relationship" from your problem description.

Oh, I see … sorry … wasn't on that wavelength, I guess … silly me!!!!

Yes, it does seem to be adversely affected by wavering temperatures … heat, particularly …

But, that's the ONLY variable … go past that 70mm - wherever you are … and watch the fireworks!!!!

If it had legs - it'd march - right OFF the camera!!!!!

I have been using a Tamron 16-300mm lens on my D7100 for a few years and I absolutely love it. It's a very versatile lens. I have gotten many great shots with that lens. It's my walk around and travel lens. I have other specialty lenses that I use occasionally but the Tamron stays on my camera 95% of the time. Great lens!

Oh, that's good to know, PVR … I have the D7100, too (D7000 shown in pic, along with EOS 60D) but, am considering this lens for my Sony SLTs - one of which uses a 16-105 lens, so, this would complement them all nicely - retaining 16mm, as I switch between the two a77s … glad to know, it's worked out for you ….
