I had to retire 2 years ago due to health problems but the doctors said that one of the best things I could do for myself was to have a hobby. I hadn't been planning to retire this early (I'm 64 now) and I really hadn't given it much thought and it was my doctor who suggested photography.

I was just wondering if anyone else has (besides photography) any interesting or unusual hobbies?

Not sure about your experience or profession but consider looking into volunteering at a local art guild. Just try to stay busy. My sister-in-law took up pottery when she retired and loves it. Her business is known locally as Earthquake Pottery. My brother came up with the name after seeing her first attempts and said it looked like she to make some of her works during an earthquake. She's gotten a lot better but the name has stuck. It's on a large banner when they display.

Like the cowboy song says: "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was."

It seems as though medal detecting would be fun on the beaches. If I lived in Florida I would give it a try.
Isn't Boyton on the section of beach they call The Treasure Coast due to all the Spanish ships on the bottom off the coast??? I hear that detectors look for the coins from these ships after a storm. They get washed up on the beach and covered with sand.

Bicycling. If you have hills, I'd suggest a mountain bike. Rugged, gearing designed for hills and rough trails. Rugged tires that rarely get flats. A mountain bike can go anywhere a street bike can, and places a street bike can't. I'm 66 retired and have been riding one (mountain bike) for years. Visit traillink.com to find old rail lines converted to bike trails wherever you live. The trails are awesome.

Hunting, fishing, camping (the real kind using a tent), motorcycle touring,
computer repair (still make a little money doing so I can do the other things) Still like rock climbing, but found I'm not as strong as I used to be, so I stick to easier climbs. Then there's the grandkids they are a great hobby, just to much fun watching them grow up! Of course there's always photography!

I have discovered the joys of paper mache. I used to do that as a child as my mother was artistic and taught her children how to be creative. Fast forward that and now that I am 60 I have rediscovered that forgotten art. I love the feel and the creativity and it keeps my busy.

There is a somewhat new pilot's license call sport pilot. You are not required to have a medical. Planes that you can fly under this license are lower performance, two-place, and you may not fly at night. Flying is a GREAT hobby. But keep in mind that an airplane is used to drill holes in the sky so you can throw A LOT of money into it. Still, it's better than sex.

Not if you're doing it right!

It's great even when done wrong, who you kidding?

I love that mask. My sister taught us that when she was in collage. I think she had to interact with young children for a course credit. We made puppet heads and then hands and colth for the body and also to connect hands and head to. I remember it was much fun. That was 50 plus years ago. wow
