Your 24-70 f2.8 is an FX lens so it will perform to its best with a "full frame" body. The 16-80 was made for bodies like your D500 because it can use the whole sensor. By the way, I know the 16-80 is an excellent sharp lens.
If you do not have a full frame body the 16-80 will be a better performer with your D500.

Thank you for this response. You point out a very good reason to keep this lens.

I get emails from Adorama inviting me to sell items but when I list them I never hear back.

That’s funny. I got two emails and one phone call from Adorama after I submitted their form listing my equipment. I am supposed to receive a prepaid label to send my lenses to them. After they receive them, I will get a quote. I can accept or reject the quote. If I accept, I can finagle a deal on a used lens or request a check. If I reject their offer, they will return my lenses at no cost to me. It’s a win-win. I think I could probably get more by selling outright though. That’s why I have those two remaining lenses listed on this site. A Sony 10-18/4 for APS-C & a Sony 24-70/4 for a full frame.

If I don’t sell them by the time the label comes, I will suspend the sale and send them to Adorama.

I’m sorry you have not heard from Adorama. The guy I talked to said they desperately want photo gear. Did you fill out their form online?

Well, I have 3 more suggestions to keep this lens, so that makes my decision to keep the lens and put it back on the D500. Thank you theehmann, fetzler, & DaveyDitzer

I would suggest you seek quotes from B&H and KEH. When I did that I sold most of the gear to B&H but I got a better price on one body from KEH. They send an intial quote from the information you send them and a final quote when you send them the equipment. If you are accurate the quote won't change. Mine did not. Actually happened very quickly. Good luck.

Interesting. I don't have either of those lenses. I was considering the 18-200, though. I opted for the Sigma 150-600 instead of the Nikon 200-500. I haven't used it too much, yet, but I will!

I use an 18-200 on my Canon 70D pretty much all the time. My utility lens on my Canon 5DIV is my 28-300L. I like that focal range so much I got the Nikkor 28-300 for my Nikon bodies. The Nikkor 28-300 isn't quite the same league as the Canon 28-300L but it does a good job and I have no complaints.
I have both the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary and the Nikon 200-500. I actually prefer the 200-500 over the Sigma although I carry the Sigma on my motorcycle quite a bit. For a big lens, it's fairly light. Slap the matching 1.4 teleconverter on it and you get pretty good reach. I also have the 150-600 Sport in Canon EF mount. It's pretty heavy so it spends a lot of time on a tripod, with a Sigma 2X extender. With a solar filter it's great for photographing sun spots.

Yeah, long lenses are fun, makes it easier to sneak up on things without having to get too close. Quality zooms like my Canon 28-300L are quite versatile. It's like having 3 or 4 prime lenses in one convenient package. The big problem is, the quality lenses are expensive. But if you add up the cost of the lenses it replaced, the cost isn't bad at all. The physical problem with a lens like the EF 28-300L is its weight. It's no too, too heavy but using one all day at something like a flower show or a car show will definitely let you know how heavy it really is.
