Nikon Z6 download photos

I just purchased a NIKON Z6. I took some pictures to test exposure, settings etc. I tried to download the photos to Lightroom Classic... could NOT download!! Also it did download to Google pictures BUT when I tried to open up the preview, nothing came up except a ! .
Can you give me suggestions on what I have to do to download and view photos taken on the Z6?? Thank you in advance

Did the camera come with software, such as ViewNX?

I know I read a little while ago that Adobe had updated LR to work with the Z6.
My copy says it is up to date.
the version info is: Lightroom Classic version: 8.1 [ 1200465 ]

but I wonder why it downloads to “ Google “ photos but as I said when I try to look at the photo from the preview nothing comes up. Is there a update for Google photos???

The Nikon software is downloadable from Nikon.

There have been no issues for me with the Z6 or Z7 concerning Lightroom Classic or Photoshop 2019.

To all who responded to me about my NIKON Z6 download.... it was my laptop which had not been upgraded,ie the latest Lightroom and I needed to upgrade Sierra and then to Mojave. When I got home from my ER shift, I downloaded the photos to my MAC PRO at home and they downloaded fine to Lightroom, which I had upgraded but not my laptop. Thank you all for your quick and helpful response!! For those in the frigid part of the states... keep warm and drive carefully. We had a lot of people come in the ER that slipped and fell on the ice!!

I have LR 6 and a Z6.
My LR version also does not resolve NEF raw.
I downloaded Adobe DNG converter and it is a simple operation to drag all the NEF files into it and they change to DNG raw.

The Z6 is supported by ViewNX-I and CaptureNX-D as well as NEF Codec. Click "View download page" then click "Product Description" to see the list of supported cameras for each software.
You will be able to download and view/retouch your Z6 NEF files using the Nikon software, ViewNX-i or CaptureNX-D. ViewNX-i is oriented more toward downloading and viewing whereas CaptureNX-D is oriented more toward retouching. I have not used NEF Codec.
It has been said that "Nikon again proves it is primarily a hardware company with the latest release of XXX software". Often called Nikon crashware, it's clunky and slow but it works and does the best job of rendering NEF color accurately.
I use it in the front end of my raw workflow.
