Amazing what one can accomplish when they set their mind to it. Yours is an interesting composition. I almost missed the fish in the water and I'm glad I didn't leave without seeing it.
I do have a problem with the vase on the left and it is probably due to the top and the bottom having opposing rather than blending curvatures.
Time well spent with the dam bird composition.

Very interesting work. Reminds me of some of the stuff Monty Python used to do. Great Job!

Thanks! You're right about the vases not matching, one of several little problems in the whole thing, from color to lighting to the manhandling of the "props". The worst was trying to make that darned checkerboard carpet fit on a tilted concrete dam-chute!

It is fun sometimes to just let your imagination run wild...

Absolutely fantastic in every way. I'm a fan of surreal art and this is really a great example.

I was thinking Dali or Magritte. What a wonderfully professional job!

I confess to inspiration from both of them. Thanks!

I know Magnetoman does. Not sure who else. While I enjoy maximizing a photo, that's not all our PP tools will do. One of the many things I like to do in post processing is create things that never were out of photos I've taken and stuff I've accrued (free) from various sources.

Since I have literally thousands of bird photos from under the dam, one of my rainy day fun activities is to anthropomorphise the dam birds in various ways. In the 1800s there was a trend in wealthy landowners to build "follies", things that looked like architectural ruins from bygone days, to decorate their properties. Here, I imagined what a dam bird might have if he built himself a Folly.

The platform, the bird and his catch, the raging water are all as-shot. But I built/furnished the folly from stuff I got from the wonderful museum and library sites that are now public domain, some textures, and the light fixture is a piece of antique jewelry. The fish are freebies from a site that does scrapbook content. Then once I had cobbled everything together I had to post process it like any other image, but being more careful to figure out light/shadow/color toning.

Is it photography? Yes, most of it, just not in one frame (well those fish are not photos). Is it post processing? Yeah, a lot of post processing. And post processing an image made of parts of 10 different photos is harder than post processing just one. But it is great fun!

To think that all this started from you wondering what the bird was going to do with the fish in its mouth! I think it was really interesting that the Folly is an island sandwiched between to torrents. It's really good. You have raised the bar again. It is also neat to see the various ways you use your dam bird photos. Nicely done.

Minnie Sorry I am late to the visual feast of your dam folly, it does look full of dam fun. However I do woe the day you should fall in and leave us with none. I still have a side ache from perusing your wonderful and expansive plaything. Thanks for the good and fun work!!! RBorud

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. It looks like you are mixing photo components and non-photo graphic elements. That is something I'm trying to figure out, and it's harder than I expected. The dam bird shot incorporates both, and I was only able to conquer it by limiting the color palette rather severely. I'm fighting with a castle as we speak, trying to get art figures to inhabit a photograph. All tips appreciated!!

I really like the underwater one, and of course the sleeping butterfly. There are no limits, so I'm hoping we can all learn from each other in this wide-open area of interest.

One thing I've learned is that the skills I have to learn to create a fantasy world are the same skills that help me work on my traditional images more effectively, which turn out to be very easy by comparison!
