Is the camera at fault or the camera woman?

No matter what, blame it on the bear.

I wasn't sure what you felt was wrong with the photo that would be attributable to either you or the camera. It looks sharp enough and the lighting is a little flat but acceptable. If you want a critique I will give you my 2 cents worth. You have a lovely little subject and I hope you will work with her more. The silky curtains are fine but loose the wall -- position her in front of the curtains only. Get white sheets and loose the pillow with the pink -- it does not help the photo. Loose the beads since she is not playing with them and they do not need to be in the shot. Everything should be white and let the color come from the child's outfit and the bear. Position the child so there is more engagement with the bear -- have her facing to the right rather than the left. Take shots of her looking off camera, and some with her looking right into the camera -- both poses can work but with children I prefer they look into the camera. From the shadow my guess is that you used a popup flash built into the camera. If you want lighting that is less flat you will need an off camera flash or at least a flash that is mounted to the hot shoe on the camera that will adjust up and down and swivel 180 degrees left to right. With that you can bounce the flash off walls or ceilings and therefore "shape" the light for better effect. I hope you will shoot some more of that precious girl and post them. So in answer to your question: camera or camera woman -- the answer is that there is nothing wrong with either -- just work on your shot more.
