I knew of that possibility but haven't used it. There's something about delving into menus that I don't care for. Give me a few dials to adjust and I'm happy .

I can’t remember if I ever used EC....
Is it a big deal to go to the menu in the very rare occasions you might need it?
😊Why not get a “better” camera, like the D7100? (Just kidding)

Of course it is. I just didn’t count it the first time. So shoot me.

Nah! I wouldn't waste a frame on you.

We're probably heading for a time when highlight weighted metering will be the way to go to protect your highlights, and EC will be seen as a quaint alternative. However, until then I think there's something to be said for at least finding out why there's a need for EC and understanding how your camera's metering can be caught out. Even if it turned out to be a temporary phase, using EC would teach the user something about exposure. I used to think that exposure bracketing would keep me safe from blown highlights, but even that can be caught out in the wrong circumstances. Maybe there'll be times when using the camera's meter together with highlight weighted metering won't give the desired exposure, in which case EC would be missed if it wasn't there. Not forgetting that for the foreseeable future there are advantages to be got from safely exposing to the right, and highlight weighted metering is the best way to do just that.

Until you get highlight weighed metering, highlight warnings (blinkies) are the easiest way to avoid blown highlights.

I never miss the EC. I simply use manual and auto ISO off. The EC doesn't teach exposure but rather confuse new user. My brother who is now a very good photographer and has a PhD in mathematics before he started using the camera. He was pissed because when he didn't have enough light he try to turn to +EC and it simply make his shutter speed goes slower. I told him the really EC is the exposure slider in the RAW converter. With that you can compensate for an underexposed shot.
