It first arrived on Christmas Day and stayed several days until the heavy rains appeared to have driven to more protected areas. Yesterday, it suddenly returned.
Terrific shots. Owls are generally very elusive. You are lucky to get an opportunity to photograph one in broad daylight. I believe this is a barred owl. I am always amazed at the effectiveness of nature's camouflage. Wonderful images. Thanks for sharing.

Thank YOU. Our house backs up to the State Park, so we see a lot of wildlife. Two days ago, there were 15 whitetail deer, with an 8-point buck among them. But before this past Christmas, I have only had 2 owl sightings, and both of those have been at night and fleeting, which is to say, no chance for photographing them. The camouflage is incredible, as you say. I have only been able to notice this one by looking at its shape: It looks like a roundish mound on the tree limb, much like a wasp nest. Except this was sticking up, not hanging down. That was so different that I did more looking and discovered the owl.
