While the new product has it's merits---less clutter for one---I miss the Skydrive photo album. I've done everything to attempt getting it back. Or picking it up in the new product to no avail. Any suggestions?

Hotmail isn't being replaced in any way that will adversely impact the casual user. If you have an @hotmail address, you will be able to keep it. You will be invited repeatedly to test the "new" mail system. Users of @yahoo, @netscape, @gmail etc. have all gone through this transition as their companies rewrite the software. Hotmail has remained pretty much unchanged for fifteen or more years, so this was inevitable.

If you don't chose to be an early adopter, some day (probably at least a year from now) you will log into your mail system and find that you are at a screen that looks different. You will scream "Ahhhhh %^$# you bunch of $#*()@#" and then go back to using email as normal.

Thankyou. She weighs 17 pounds and sings at the top her Siamese voice. Likes to sneak up, on my wife, and grab an ankle. She is now a senior citizen but gives no evidence of being anything than a big kitten.

I didn't say it, but I will repeat Will Rogers', "All I know is what I read in the papers":

You are correct in that hotmail will be eliminated in favor of outlook. My point is that you won't know the difference except for seeing a new screen layout and some different functions. You will still have @hotmail as an address, you will still have all your mailbox(es) content etc.

DID YOU READ THE DIANA BASS COMMENT?
Not true. There were emenities ie SkyDrive that was not available. Look, I'm not taking on the cause of Chicken Little---perhaps the sky is not totally falling in, but when I went over to look at Outlook, I got some unfortuneate allian invitations and extraneous, non Micrsoft, data. Luckily I was able to find the "return to Hotmail" link and am "whole" again.

I have Hotmail too and have NEVER recieved anything in regards to in being phased out to Outlook. You'd think Microsoft would tell us. And, my SkyDrive is still available and working. So I wonder whats up. I guess I'll wait on something offical from Microsoft before I do anything. Or, maybe the change was so seemless it's not noticable.

Same here. I would never have guessed anything changed EXCEPT when I went to review my "contacts" the other day. A new and different looking screen with "Outlook" at the top opens. My contacts are, indeed, there but there's no alphabet bar where you can click on a letter to go to a desired section, and no "return to Inbox" button or link on the page that I can see. I have to close the window (which logs me off my Hotmail account), and I then have to re-log back into Hotmail to get to me email messages again! That's just unacceptable.

If we read carefully the comments of a Microsoft Certified Engineer we will see what is really happening at Microsoft.
The link below will take you directly to a long and extensive article written about the change.

http://winnews.com/

It is the first article on the page.

Microsoft is changing the way Hotmail looks and works. They are making it look and work more like Outlook, which only comes with Microsoft Office (a suite of office productivity applications).

If we read between the lines, and remember Microsoft history, we will see where Microsoft is heading. In the end they (Microsoft) want to place everything in the "Cloud", where you access everything on some else's computer system (Microsoft).

The goal is to have all programs and files contained on remote computers called the "Cloud". You will get to purchase a computer with limited Hard Drive capacity, limited Memory capability, and then pay a monthly fee to access your programs and all your personal files. Of course these programs and personal files will no longer belong to you, and personal information will no longer be private.

Microsoft has already publicly stated they want to move more into Cloud Technology as quickly as possible.

The U.S. Government, Department of Homeland Security, has done what to phone calls, and e-mail?

'Nuff said.

So P.S., Wudyu say now? Sounds to me like area 51 and Roswell all over again. Or is it a Clintonese Right Wing Conspiracy? Expect Vince Flynn to make millions off of it and in the end we'll see a crawl across Fox telling us to grab our ankles. Sorry guys, I read "Two Minutes After" and I'm still shaking! But, really, the govt using Microsoft in a project "Aurora" coup? Ooooooooooooo!!
