I have a policy at my house that might help with the Spanish speeking tech. If english is not your first language (preferably your only language) you do not get to come into my yard or house to work on anything.
To me "Best Buy" is a misnomer! I remember when Best Buy stores first opened. There prices were quite reasonable. Now when I go into a Best Buy the vast majority of items are priced at manufacturers suggested retail price. Most independent retail outlets will sell items at very competitive prices. (for example Sears will match a price on any item you find from anywhere in the U.S.) If you are looking to purchase just about anything to do with photography, you can get much better prices through Amazon.com, B&H, Adorama, or any of the big camera outlets.

Have never had a problem with Best Buy...and with a 17 year old in the house who cant decide what he wants..their return policy is great
I, too, have never had a problem with them. I agree that they have a great return policy. I returned a Canon SX40HS and returned it on the 30th day. Answered a couple of questions and that was it. I agree that it would be nice if the helpers knew more about the items they sell. Cheers.
Best Buy, like a lot of other retailers, would be well served in the long run if they would spend even half the $$, time and resources teaching their employees about product knowledge and personal interaction skills as they do trying to hammer the employees to promote and "sell" their credit cards. Many retailers today will terminate employees simply because they don't have enough new credit card sign-ups, regardless of their job performance otherwise.
Customer Service Specialist actually means they are the best liar in the store.
Just last Sunday my wife and I went to BB to buy a Samsung Galaxy 2 student edition tablet. We were there before the store opened. When we went in we went directly to the computer dept and was asked if they could help us. I told the clerk I wanted 2 of the Samsung Galaxys that were on sale. He said they were locked up becuse they only had a few and would be right back. He came back with one and said that is all he could sell me. I told him I needed two and he said " the manager made a decision that they would only sell one to a customer". I said there was no stipulation in any of their advertisements and Samsung advertisements that it was restricted to one per customer. It only said that it was for two weeks or until gone. I said get me the manager. He came back with the other unit that I requested and said he did me a favor. I told him the only favor he did was save his managers ass. I got my two units. I hope they do go out of business. By the way, the only place I could find selling this package (the unit, Keyboard and USB connection) was BB.
RixPix, I'm sorry, but that was funny . I probably would have shot the machine and got it over with . And not to be sarcastic, but you are in Miami, what language did you think they would speak, English? LOL

Also, everyone talks about the " blueshirts ", not knowing anything, thats all on management , not them. It's like people that buy a dog, and expect it to learn on it's own , no ignorant person, you have to train them . SIMPLE>
Only use Best-Buy for price comparison(s). If at all. It only takes one VERY dissatisfied experience to convince me of that. Concerned the extended service warranty on a laptop. Have personally renamed the 'Geek squad' something else. Have not bought anything there since. Will not be surprised to see them lose big time.
I hope people don't expect Walmart or any other discount chain stores to have more knowledgeable people working for them.
Many of their personnel have no intention of working for them for any length of time, and are there to supplement income for their families or college.
When you place an individual in the "electronics" department
you can't expect that person to have good technical expertise on every TV, computer, camera, etc., that the store sells. And keeping up with technology and model changes constantly requires a lot of homework, not likely to be beneficial for an $8 an hour job.
Buying something technical for a lower price from a general merchandise discount store requires YOU to investigate the features of the make/model of the item you're interested in.
If you have a laptop with WiFi function you can find a restaurant (McDonald's, sometimes) that has free WiFi you can use for looking up these devices and taking notes. All while having a meal or cup of coffee while doing so.
If you don't have the desire or ability to do this you're left with 4 choices.
Buy from a reputable dealer who is dedicated and knowledgeable about the item you're looking for. This usually costs more but you'll get what you're looking for.
There are still some of them left locally, but don't forget the 800 numbers you can call. For photography there's quite a few companies that are notorious for good service, many of them recommended by UHH participants.
Buy it on the internet. Better do your homework on the seller here. Be suspect of something with a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews, sometimes these reviews are written by the sellers themselves with different names for each review.
If you decide to buy from a discount store take someone along who is savvy to the items you're buying. An example;it makes no sense to spend an extra $100 for a 34" TV that has 1080 resolution, it looks the same as a 720 from 8 feet away. (I've never seen one, but this is an example of marketing).
Forget the whole thing and go have a beer.
Buying and selling in quantity along with minimal sales staff and talent is how discount stores make their money.

I have had no problem with Best Buy. I always research what I am going to buy online. If you take that initiative you could care less how much the salesperson knows. I have a mobility problen so I usually buy online. Recently purchased a Epson 845 printer. Was on sale at Epson site for 139.00. Best Buy was 99.00 with free shipping. Had the printer in 2 days. Personal research solves most of the problems.
I do not expect any sales person to be knowledgeable about that which they sell. As yet, I've never been disappointed.
I see now that it is advertised on Amazon.
