Are you calling the black Israelite his sidekick?

Not at all. They were being quite abusive though. Pretty much to any white people walking by.

The sidekick was another Native American who was hurling insults and a plethora of F-Bombs at the kids. He is not on camera nor is his verbage included in the clip which cause the uproar. But he is standing about four feet from Nathan as he bangs his drum right in the boy's face.

You don't have to watch a two hour movie. I don't have the link, but there is an unedited single shot (uninterrupted) clip of about twellve minute duration which gives the entire event some degree of clarity. It is quite revealing regarding the fake news nature of the initial story. The kids were not the villains.

The Black Israelites were pretty inflammatory,

and,

Phillips is a liar.

This thread started as a look at how the media flipped and drove a story to an emotional frenzy. There have been a few thoughtful posts here but mainly this is a hate fest. Go for your life , I hope everything works out for you.

It's a telling symptom that the 'intellectuals' here are in lock step with the real dumb ones. When you got nothing, double down. This news cycle is almost over and this story has been an excellent shutdown diversion. We now have this locked in Fox version to add to the heap.

I doubt we'll ever know what really happened. The only thing I really missed was someone saying ... "good people on both sides".

No. You screwed up and tried to go against reality. You also screwed up depending on The Guardian as your source. They're almost as bad as Buzzfeed.

The reason Nathan Phillips acted this way and the MSM twisted the story right away was a diversion. A diversion to overshadow the massive Walk For Life that had just taken place in DC, attended by hundreds of thousands of people. By his little confrontation (not his first one, not even his latest,) the fake Vietnam Vet provided cover for the MSM to ignore the Walk For Life and instead concentrate on destroying children's lives. They would have succeeded if it hadn't been for that more complete video because the story that was created of whole cloth fit the narrative, and who really cares about with Catholic boys anyways, right?

Now that the truth has come out, and rather quickly at that, you disgustingly tried to justify the evil actions of the fake Vietnam Vet and sow confusion and discord. You are lower that a piece of dog excrement stuck under a shoe and now we have your full measure.

And BTW, the fake Vietnam Vet was in fact a refrigerator repairman in the Marines and went AWOL 3 times and started fights. The day after his disgusting actions, he tried to disrupt a church service and was prevented from doing so by security at that church. The donkeyhole has no respect for anything or anyone, he thinks he's entitled to disrupt any activity he does not like. A typical leftist. Just like you.

Listen to the very same people that flipped Trump into a no win wall position? Those people are your brain trust.

Talk about changing the goalposts. First you are telling us without any proof that the Catholic kids were in the wrong for standing there and minding their own business and then somehow attacked the Indian who approached them. We all know now, maybe you aren't aware of it because it doesn't fit your Leftist agenda, that the Indian is a known Leftist paid agitator. Did that part somehow escape your eyes when you were looking for something to post? Now you are somehow bringing in the Wall to the conversation as some kind of proof that the kids must have been in the wrong because Trump wants the Wall. WTF are you talking about?

May I suggest you take a look at the entire video to see the Black Israeli racist chanters yelling at the students. You don't to have any clue about that group or I think you would have mentioned them somehow. You also don't seem to know that the Indian and his group did approach the kids. Please tell us what the kids did, on video, that somehow drew the ire of the Indian and the Black Israeli group. Surely you won't tell us they have no right to wear the MAGA hats because they absolutely do have that right.

Conservatives have realized they can construct a parallel reality and have it accepted

In just four days, teenager Nick Sandmann and his fellow students at Covington Catholic high school have gone from social media pariahs to conservative heroes

The relentlessly repeated talking point — that there was a collective “rush to judgment” on the boys because they were Trump supporters – was used by conservative anchors Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham to attack mainstream media and left leaning social media users.

On Wednesday morning, Sandmann got almost nine minutes of airtime on a national breakfast program to make his case, after his family hired a Republican-linked PR firm.

In making this happen, conservative media have normalized the boys’ aggressive form of political expression, and tried to further discredit both fact-oriented media and high-profile liberals. Media outlets have been effectively gaslighted, and many climbed down from coverage which was based on the most clear and obvious interpretation of the boys chanting, making gestures and making tomahawk chops.

What it tells us is that in 2019, conservatives understand they can construct a parallel reality and have it accepted. They can act in bad faith and prevail, using tried and tested tactics that liberal media continue to fall for

Mr anti-American non-American,

The kids are innocent.
You just described (thank you) the democrat media complex. Thank you.

1. Reframe the debate as soon as possible

A particular version of events based on early footage can always be called into question, and another version put forward as definitive, as more footage, and alternative edits of footage emerge. Partisans can pick and choose, knowing that a definitive version of what happened may not emerge before the news cycle has moved on.

Just as importantly, additional footage allows the discussion to be reframed. Instead of asking why a group of schoolboys were protesting wearing hats that many in the community view as a symbol of racism, conservatives quickly turned it into a game of who approached whom, and began discussing the teenagers as if they were literal martyrs.

2. Pick your narratives

So far, conservative media has been unified and resolute in hammering the narrative that Nathan Philips, a Native American veteran, somehow provoked the boys by coming between them and a small group of Black Hebrew Israelites, to whose insults they had responded with chants.

No amount of additional footage showing their Maga-yelling rowdy behavior and sexist comments before the event – not even clear and concise edits showing how aggressive and provocative the teens were and how calm Phillips was – is capable of knocking them off this course.

If you want a lesson in how this kind of persistence works, look at the coverage from Gateway Pundit since Saturday. Very early on, Jim Hoft recognized the symbolic value of the confrontation, doggedly pushed his own, partial interpretation of events, smeared everyone on the other side, and then brought the entirety of conservative media with him. (Earlier, even some conservative outlets had been critical of the boys). His reward was seeing that version of events trumpeted by Tucker Carlson on Monday night, who also launched a broadside at any conservatives who had wavered from exonerating the teens.

That night, and Tuesday, Carlson’s fellow Fox News hosts were singing from the same songsheet. And if Fox News presents a unified message, the president frequently echoes it.

3. Focus on the extremes of the other side

Another tactic conservative media uses is to only consider the most appalling versions of opposing arguments, and to focus their audience’s anger on reliable scapegoats.

To avoid confronting reasonable arguments or new evidence, conservatives emphasize the worst of the other side – like tweets calling for violence or doxxing. Tweets calling for violence or doxxing against high school students are obviously and clearly unacceptable, but nor are they typical of the criticisms made of the boys, their school and their conduct. They also focus the audience on liberal journalists and celebrities – mostly women – who their audience feel comfortable in deriding and dismissing.

As of Wednesday, as a result of these well-worn tactics, liberal media has almost completely backed away from their initial, justified take on the story.

Nathan Phillips didn't have time to let the Black Israelites have a go at the kids. He was too busy harassing them himself. Please don't tell us that Nathan Phillips was attempting to protect the kids from the Black racist group? That just won't fly. You can coulda, woulda, shoulda all the live long day until the cows come home after watching pigs fly but it won't wash with anybody having common sense.

Ok, so a group of kids mostly 15 and 16 year olds are waiting for a bus, a group of activists are calling them incest babies and worse for about an hour, and old Indian activist walks up to them and invades their personal space while pounding a drum and loudly chanting, the kids do little in reaction to all of this and somehow you are insinuating that they are the bad guy.... The left is turning the world upside down.

Yup, you described the scene perfectly. Invaded the kid's personal space is the exact way to express what happened. We all feel uncomfortable when someone, even a friend gets too close to us, violating that personal space we all are entitled to. Had Nathan Phillips been that close to me I would have first asked him to step back. I will leave the second to anyone else to figure out. From my law enforcement/corrections background that is way too close for me.

Lefties do like to molest kids. If they can’t, harass is a good thing too. They’ve been caught on video. They still lie.

Lefties are evil.

ALL political expression, no matter how it triggers weak minds, is why we have the first amendment and that right cannot be abridged no matter how much it triggers weak minds.
It is normal for children to visit DC and it is normal and Constitutionally protected to express your political views with no threats as the democrats did.
