Hi guys!
I have been reading your post for a while now, and I never participated in the discussions because of someone always came out whit my point, and he says much better than I can.
But today I am looking to discover if I am crazy and alone in my position.
But before going to the point I wish to apologize because English is not my first language, and at a time my thinking gets a bit confusing for a mother tongue, so please bear whit me and try to understand.
Now to the point, I did study photography at school and I graduated in artistic graphic design and photography, in a time when the film was the only way, and my first camera was a Pentax K1000 that I still own. After graduation a carried out a couple of photojournalistic jobs, and then life and injury set me on a different phat for almost 3 decades, where I sporadically used the camera. About 15 years ago I friend give me a kodak digital camera, I thin was a 5MP Easyshare that I never liked to use and passed to my sister.
Then a couple of years ago I decided to give digital a second chance and after some research, looking for a light and compact interchangeable lens camera to take everywhere, I got a used Olympus pen2, and after I found my control setting on the camera, I really liked the pictures and use that camera, but the EVF refresh was too slow, and so I decided to upgrade the camera and format, I feel that Olympus put too much of gadgets in their bodies, and ultimately you pay too much for a 4/3 sensor.
So I decided APS-C, and the decision was between Sony and Fuji, Fuji was pricey with better optics but offering lower resolution, much beefier raw file not supported by may software, and fewer features, the xt1 was a camera for still photography, while the Sony a hybrid, when the XT10 came out I told that is it, all was in place, felt good in the hand, light and compact to carry everywhere, but a problem was the flash support like in the XT1, then the XT1 was given full flash support (adding HSS) by firmware update, and because the XT10 uses same processor and sensor I assumed it was going to receive HSS as well (after all is only a step down), but did not happens, and I been told by Fuji it will not happen. In the main time, the XT2 for good it is does not have any major improvement that attracts me, is a hybrid, so the XT20, and do not talk about the XH1 and the XT3, are we making pictures or movies? did they improve the dynamic range? did they extend the low ISO (only marginally in the XT3)? more megapixel is better hi ISO? no, they have done nothing to improve the capability of the still photography, but look at the video... oh yeah! ... but a moment, 3 years and I do not know if the Hi-definition video recording work in my XT10, (sorry one time by accident filled my memory card and drain the battery while hiking to a waterfall. Now I fill as a faithful husband cheated by the much-loved wife, I choose a camera like a wife, for the long run, because we want the same thing in life, and we want to grow in the same direction, I choose fuji because was going in the direction of rediscovering the passion for photography, and now I am pushed to live with a teenager that goes all over the places just because is fun. So I told if I must change body next year I'll go FF and ten new body and new lenses... what fill my criteria of one job done right without bankrupt me? Sony sells TV so guess what the direction is? the other option I can find is Nikon df (which tick all my boxes) and came out in 2013, 8 years old, does make any sense to restart a new with a camera so old in a digital time?
It is only me that feel forced to keep up with a trend that does not give back what you look for, I do understand that a lot of professionals need to stay up to date and customer ask more and more, and want to pay less and less, so they need bodies that can make their life easier and can do all a paying customer may ask, and vlogger and blogger, they have their need, but what about still photographer that do not want go through pages of menus to change one parameter, and will never use 3/4 of the function offered, are we happy to pay for the development of systems we do not use?
I am crazy and alone on that?
Please if you fell You have something to say just say it as you fell, free to disagree and be rude if you like if I am wrong I need to snap out of that.
Hi guys! br I have been reading your post for a w... (show quote)

Your English is fine your math is a bit rusty. The Df is 5 year and 1 month old and not 8 year old. It's still in the current Nikon line up and there is no replacement insight. The price is still the same as when it's introduced.

"and will never use 3/4 of the function offered, are we happy to pay for the development of systems we do not use?"

Those development of systems you do not use doesn't cost you much. It costs you not to have them. You picked the Df and you know it has few of those development and cost more. It costs close to that of the D850 and you can compare features.
( I do own a Df and love it but I know what I paid for).

If you think that the letter was torture to read, you’re wrong. He did well. In fact, he did better than many of my native-speaker college freshmen. As for not knowing who is and who isn’t a native speaker, after teaching writing for forty years, there are tell-tale signs, and I have a pretty good handle on spotting them.

Johny,

The title asks if you are crazy. I can't answer that. But if you are crazy, you have a lot of company here.

Newer cameras, even with all their new features, aren't going to give you a much better image than the Df. Most of the noticeable improvements have been made in video. So, unless you are going to do video the Df should be fine.

Don't think you'll be disappointed with the XT2 or 3, since you already have some Fuji equipment...just ignore what features it has that you don't need.

No you are not "crazy." Photographers by their very nature are their worst critics. Never criticize your work. Always critique your captures. Look at the photo and say to yourself (or anyone else) what would make this n even better photograph. If you are not happy with something, try something new. But keep shooting. By the way, I wasn't paying attention to your grammar! LOL!

Comparing I viewed some pics from the Df, and the a7 (more than twice the MP, ) and the df did not look worst at all, I am only sayng at a certain point I feel the megapixel count is not so relevant, unless there is a need for very large print or strong crop, but again in my “work” I have all the time to think and set all I need and wait for what I want to happen. Maybe that is a loxury you can’t afford. Cameras are tools and every tool has is own job. I want old on to my tools and love them but they are tools, and I do not believe in brand loyalty.

Get a used Df and some old Nikon AI;AIS; or even pre-AI lens, shoot MF with the Df. Half of my 10 lenses on my six years old Df are MF lens.

If you think that Johny's letter was torturous to read, I should share the weekly emails I get from my "uncle" in Nigeria, now reading those is real torture!

Welcome to the forum. I'm a beginner, too, never have held a job concerning photography. Now retired, almost 70, and learning to use a new-to-me Pentax K10D, an entry-level DSLR, which replaces three K1000s, which are entry level film cameras. My reason for choosing to stay with Pentax is because of their factory claim that any lens from any vintage Pentax will fit any OTHER Pentax. The old lenses work just fine, manual of course, but I have several, including an inexpensive 1000mm which is really a Kalimar 500mm on a Vivitar 2X Tele Converter. Works fairly well, a good enough for this beginner! What I'm trying to say is, I deliberately chose an entry-level camera to keep the use of the equipment I already have. I'm also deliberately staying away from "keeping up with the Jonses", because I don't have either money or time for that sort of foolishness! Change for the sake of change, is NOT PROGRESS! I've got to learn the equipment I have before moving on! Good luck with your quest for a camera. Now you know my reasons for staying with the maker I have!

Has anyone told you that it is impossible to make good images with an old camera? Has anyone told you that unless you get the "best" the images will not be acceptable? Please, if you studied photography you very well know that a modern camera is a box with electronics and a hole to fit the lens. You can spend $3000 or $300, the hole in both will be identical. Technology will change depending on how old is one compared to the other and if you need such a sophisticated technology, I do not, then you have to live with it and spend your hard made dollars.
Olympus has come a long way since their original M43 system mirrorless cameras. I used an old EPL-1 for over 2 years and I bought new technology because I was in need of a better EVF. The switch to the new technology cost me an extra $200 and I bought refurb. I still keep and will continue to keep that camera which is the Pen EP-5.
Any of those cameras by Fuji you mentioned should do the job if you do yours.

Perhaps you can identify what final product IQ is so much better from that you desire vs. what you have rather than chasing the carrot?

Cheers!

I have the Df and if it breaks I would simply buy another one. For the same money I can get the D810 or for only 20% more I can get the D850. I don't think anyone can really say the D850 isn't good enough. So choosing the Df isn't about affordability but rather it's just something you want. It's introduced 5 years ago but it's still in current lineup and I doubt that an update will ever be made.
