I have an Accord I bought with 20,000 miles on it and now has 141,000. I change the oil on a regular basis and that is it. I have never had it tuned up or even the brakes changed, lots of highway miles.

I would consider changing the cam drive belt unless you intend to trash the car when/if the belt fails - VERY expensive repair (new engine).

I owned many Honda’s After 100000 miles the Transmission went in my Pilot, the same thing happened to my CRV. After we sold my wife’s Accord the transmission went South. All had high mileage Roll the dice

Yes true story on the high mileage Honda. I met him twice. first time I told him I had 320K on my Honda Hatchback. He showed me 670K on HIS honda accord wagon. Next time we met up he had 760K on it. Last I heard it hit 1000K. Yes some things do happen in KS...

So your affordability is the same as everyone else?

I’m not advocating yes or no, just that people think it through.

This argument already seems quite well thought through. Perhaps your response to it could use some more thought, but the argument itself is clear and complete.
Arguing with a question is the most basic form of trolling. I assume that is not your intent as this is a horrible place to look for trolling targets; but that is what your post sounds like.

Problem with Hyundai it's like buying an appliance , once they break they are gone. Best thing is to stay away from them.

If you have a mortgage, you have to have homeowners insurance. If your house is free and clear, insurance is still smart. It makes sense to have insurance on an asset worth over $100,000, but not a ripoff extended warranty on something worth just a few thousand. Your assumption is illogical.

I’ve read that the odds are 800:1 of a house burning down in the next year.

Exactly the opposite.

If anyone is trolling it’s someone advocating that everyone should make decisions the way they would.

I have never felt that any car company builds a better car than Cadillac. I've drove them since I was 16 years old. They are extremly reliable, comfortable, quiet, innovative and recognizable. Why send money overseas for less a than quality vehichle?

You were lucky. And as far as “sending money overseas”, most of the parts in those Cadillacs are made in Japan, Korea or China.

Extended warranties can be a good thing for some folks, but you really have to shop, read reviews, check BBB, and above all, stall, stall, stall and you will see the price go down, down, down. Some dealerships around here offer "free" warranty for life, but I've not looked into that, or to cost impact (nothing is free, most other things cost money). I still say one would be better off putting money under the mattress, in an account or wherever, to use should the need arise. Some call it a "rainy day fund" or "emergency Bug-out cash". For those with no mechanical experience, might be good, but, what I said before.

Re: those lifetime warrantys. The average car owner does not drive z wholoe lot of miles, nor keep his car for many years. So it's a bet by the dealer that the owner will never have a major repair and he is usually right. But if you plan to keep your car for many years and drive many miles the lifetime deal, depencding upon conditions of the warranty may be a good idea.

A manufacturer's extended warranty can be a good thing to have, if the price is reasonable. That would only be true if the extended warranty was directly from Honda (in your case), and extends protection beyond the original warranties expiration based on date and/or mileage. I have benefitted from having a car manufacturer's extended warranty on many of my vehicles. That kind of policy can be worth the expense. Repairs can be quite expensive, such as replacing major A/C components, or replacing a transmission, both of which can and do happen, yes even on Hondas, Toyotas, etc. However, most 3rd party 'warranties' are not worth the paper they are printed on. I would not spend that kind of money on a policy from a 3rd party.

In most cases buying an extended warranty is a very poor expenditure. The Honda if cared for
will last you a very long time with only minor issue's.

I own a 2004 Ram 1500 with a V8 that I purchased with 35,000 miles on it. It now has 189,000 plus.
I immediately changed the oil to Mobil ! and add Marvel's Mystery Oil to the fuel at every fill up.
It still does not burn oil between oil changes, and I have never changed spark plugs.

Our other car is a 2004 Corvette Convertable, same story. However, the Ram is our daily driver.

If you bank $1100. every month you'd have $13,200 at the end of each year. Think how much you 'd
have in 10 years. ( I also question the high price of the the extended warranty @ $1100 per month).

Again, never buy extended warranties!

Jonathan,

Sorry for the error, I thought you said 1100. per month, I see where it is per year.
However, the rest of my reply is true; Never buy extended warranties.
