The Buick was SOOOOO comfortable and paid for for years, with no other major repairs.
Only got rid of it because I was rear-ended and totaled by some kid with a cell phone.
When they start needing regular repairs, they get replaced.

I have never felt that any car company builds a better car than Cadillac. I've drove them since I was 16 years old. They are extremly reliable, comfortable, quiet, innovative and recognizable. Why send money overseas for less a than quality vehichle?

Absolutely NOT. I have a 2007 Honda Accord I purchased new, have 153.000 miles on it and consider it just broken in. No repairs except brakes. Its the only one I intend to own.

I have bought extended warranties both from Ford on a F-150 and a Honda CRV. Have not utilized either and I will not but this again. If you feel like you really need to make that purchase I strongly suggest you buy a warranty from the dealer that is a HONDA product and not 3rd party. You will be covered nationwide. Never buy from a 3rd party. Some dealers even sell 3rd party warranties because all they look at is profit. Make absolutely sure your warranty is from the automobile manufacturer.

Depends on what you are comfortable with. I had never bought one but when I purchased a new 2011 Honda CRZ I was offered one at a hugh price. I said no, then talked with the shop supervisor and found out how many computers were in the car and what they cost. (third party supplier) I bought the contract. The windshield washer tank and motor had to be replaced and required the removal of the front bumper cover, labor over $100.00 Then the big one. At 59,820 miles in for an oil change and a leak was found at the rear main seal. Could not perform service until next week, OK. Brought it in with 60,001 miles on it. One mile over the 60,000 mile warranty period. Hey, this was scheduled at 59,820 miles and should be covered. Sorry tech did not enter it into the computer. Cost about 1,600, have to remove the tranny to fix it. Doesn't my extended warranty cover that? OH! you have one of those, let me look it up, Yes it does. Saved about $400 over the cost of the extended coverage. Sometimes they pay off. Not often, but some times.

I bought 2014 Accord Touring (used, 30k miles) a couple of years ago. I also went for the extended warranty mainly because of all the electronics on it, Adaptive Cruise Control, Nav etc. it’s also the only extended warranty I’ve ever bought on anything I’ve owned. I guess it was a matter of weakness on my part but I look at it like my nursery home insurance, I hope to hell I never have to use it but it does give me peace of mind knowing I have it. I hope you enjoy your Accord as much as I do mine.
The mileage I get with a 278hp V6 blows my mind. The mpg shown in the attached photo was taken about 80 miles after a fillup and there was a bit of a tailwind on the interstate, still I can count on the low to mid 30's in normal highway driving.

Jonathan, if you have self-discipline, put that money in a savings account. Then, if after sometime you need to do a more costly repair the money will there. If you don't need a costly repair, the money will be in your pocket and not someone else's.

Should I buy an extended warranty from Honda at over $1,100/yr? Bought the 2014 Accord from the original purchaser last August 2018 with only 24,500 miles on it. I plan to keep the car until it dies. However the extended warranty even form 3rd party carriers, isn't cheep.

Thanks

I have a 2005 Honda Accord. It has over 140,000 miles on it. The question is how well will you take care of the car? I had a few things go bad in my car over the years. The two highest were an air condition module and my alternator. I do not have a contract on my car. I everything to my car to keep it running. It is very reliable car. Take the money for the contract and put it in a bank account. After years of service . Something wears out. Good luck. Take care of your car and yourself.

I have owned 6 honda Accords over the past 20+ years. I also have a 1999 CRV with 155,000 miles. I have never owned an extended warranty or needed one. My last Accord 2012 Accord was traded in for a 2018 model. It had 105,000 miles. Never needed any major repair. Save your money!! Honda's have fantastic longevity!!

Hi Mark. I have a 1999 Honda Odyssey with 129,000 miles. It beats almost any SUV for hauling stuff. Had 44 bags of mulch in it last year. No problem.

Yes I do, as well as insurance on the cars.
But I don't have an extended warranty on the house, cell phone, or computer, or printer, or.....

Cripe, some places want to sell you an extended warranty on a hand saw.

(I know not directed at me, but I felt compelled to answer.)

And as I suggested, how risk averse someone is and how bad the repair would hurt them ... as such there is no one size fits all answer.

I’m not trying to tell anyone to buy or not to buy any product.

I would just add that with well-designed and well-maintained vehicles, often what gets expensive is age, not mileage-related. In particular, everything made of rubber - engine/transmission seals, U-joint boots on FWD cars, suspension bushings, door seals, etc...

A blown transmission front seal is a terminal failure, which can cost$ 2-4K$ to replace the transmission (very few people repair transmissions in this swap, rather than repair environment, driven by $100+ per hour labor rates). I had a front transmission seal fail on an early Lexus ES300. It was way out of warranty, and Lexus would not repair it - wanted $3K+ For a new one, and no one wanted to get into it to replace the seal (and no idea if any damage had been done when it catastrophicly failed). The solution was one from Japan. Turns out that the Japanese have much stricter inspection laws than we do, so vehicles are often junked with 50K miles. There’s at least one company that buys engines and transmissions from those vehicles and ships them by the CONEX box load to the US. Picked up a transmission for $800 plus the labor to install it (roughly $250 as I recall), and it came with a two year warranty as long as you could prove that the fluid and filter was changed at the time of installation. No idea if that company is still around, but something to remember...

Stay away from "supplemental" warranty

If you want to keep the car a long time just open a special account for it and save whatever you can every month.

Honda like Toyota last a long time... if you take care of them

READ THE POLICY, READ THE POLICY, READ THE POLICY. Some (not many)policies provide coverage for "wear and tear" in addition to covering manufacturing defects. If a policy only covers manufacturing defects and a part fails, what do you think the insurance company will say was the reason for the parts failure? If you guessed they will state it simply wore out (wear and tear and not covered), move to the head of the class. Additionally, the price for these policies (in Washington and I suspect most other states) is negotiable, just like the sticker price on the vehicle.

I purchased one that covered wear and tear for my Mercedes SL 500. The list price was $4500 and I purchased for around $3750. Over the life of the policy is saved me about $5000 over the $3750 (power steering pump $3200, hydraulic suspension failure new front struts $1750, rear main engine seal replacement $1575, numerous sensors and the labor to replace them made up the remaining balance.

The key is to read the policy, even after purchase you have 10 days (in Washington and I suspect other states) to return it for a full refund. Know you car and any known areas of potential failure and associated costs and make an informed decision. My decision was right for me but only you will know what is right for you but at least be as informed as you can possibly be. Another suggestion contact your state insurance commissioner's office for any complaints against any company with which you are considering doing business, extended warranty or otherwise.

No. But if you do, the price on those policies is negotiable. At least 1/2 the cost is commission so the seller has incentive to make at least something or get no sale at all. Some folks are insurance-poor or, at least, they used to be until most of us became more enlightened as to what is behind insurances.
