I love my D810 and all it does. Not currently ready to add another camera body but when I am would the D850 use the same battery as the D810?
The D810 EN-EL15 battery will work in the D850, but will not give you as many shots per charge as the EN-EL15a that comes with the D850 because it has a different control chip that allows the D850 to have more control over regulating the batteries power.

Yes. Same EL15A battery. I have added a D850 as a second body to my D850. I really like it, but the D810 is still my primary body for a number of reasons, mostly relating to a couple of control relocations on the D850.

That second sentence should have said "...as a second body to my D810. " The spell check on my phone is trying to sort out my cameras for me

I also have a D810, and I love mine as well. It’s great that the D850 will use the same battery as the D810, but unfortunately for me the D850 can’t use CF memory cards, which really doesn’t bother me that they don’t, but is however the ONLY thing holding me back from getting one. (I know, I need a good therapist!) Having close to a couple dozen or more CF cards, I don’t want to start spending any more money on memory cards, especially when a 32GB XQD card is costing around $90 each.
Both the D810 and D850 are EXCEPTIONAL cameras. Both cameras will use the EN-EL15, or the EN-EL15a that ships with the D850. BTW: Same battery fits the D500 and others.

But the D850 also uses readily available and economical SD cards. If you are not shooting video or long continuous bursts, they work just fine in the D850.

Good point Larry, almost forgot about using the SD card slot in the D850. When doing a job I always utilize both card slots in my camera, one of them being strictly the backup card, just in case it’s needed. Could always just buy one XQD card and use it as the backup; that D850 is really speaking to me now.
That's exactly what I've decided to do for now. The SD card is set up as primary. I'll gradually buy additional XQD cards and change to the other way around.
