Hi, I now live in the state of SC and I am looking for a good quality custom lab that can print from either slides or digital shots. I use to do all my own printing mostly on Cibachrome and I'm sure there must be several labs that have quality prints equal to this if not much better. Thanks for your help as I have read many post here that has saved me both time and effort.
Thanks Again, David

Is there a Costco near you? I've had great results from them.
But I don't know how they (would) handle slides.
Does anyone do Cibachrome anymore?

The processing you mentioned is obsolete. Isn't it?

I use McGreevy pro lab in Albany, NY. Look on their website: www.mcgreevyprolab.com they do a great job.

nationsphoto.com is a terrific resource for prints from digital files. Exceptional quality and surprisingly reasonable prices. You'll need to call or email them to check on prints from slides. I kinda doubt it. You may end up using two labs, not one. Good luck! >Alan

A landscape photographer I know (still in biz) used to do exclusively Cibachrome, but has not for some time. I think it's a discontinued process, as asked before in this post.

Cibachrome was discontinued in 2012.
See the last line of history:

Digmypicks.com does slides. I haven’t used them but a couple of people I know has in the past. If you have a lot, you may look into slide converters, many to choose from on amazon and then you can use any service and edit your own. I prefer Nations photo especially for metal prints. They always have sales and great turn around time.

I use Coupralux in Dallas. They do work via a drop box for those who don't walk in. I've been printing on nice textured paper for about 10 cents per square inch, which makes an 8x10 cost $8.00. They will work with you to whatever extent you wish or print as submitted, based on how you instruct them.

It's hard to find a good custom lab these days. The want to scan and print using a laser printer that exposes color paper. It's easier and doesn't require as skilled employees.

But what's really hard to find is a great custom lab that prints using real enlargers. It does have a different look. If you find a good one consider yourself lucky.

Hi, David. I used to use 'chrome films of all sorts, and printed Cibachromes here and there.

To print slides or 35mm negatives, they must first be scanned at very high resolution (3200 to 6400 dpi).

After color correction in post processing software (Lightroom or Photoshop...), the digital images are sent directly to the printer.

I used to know all sorts of conventional silver halide photo labs in the Charlotte area, and worked for one for decades, but most of them have sold out, merged, or gone belly up. Kenny Color in Charlotte is a top notch commercial custom lab my wife used for years. United Promotions Inc. is a high volume lab if you need lots of machine prints. I probably worked with a few of the people there when we were at another lab in Charlotte.

With the Internet at our fingers, we can choose from dozens of first rate nationally known pro labs. White House Custom Color, Bay Photo, Full Color, H&H, Millers/mPix, Adorama, Shutterfly, Dwayne's Photo, and The Darkroom are just a few of many fine labs out there. Google them all.

https://www.picturesalon.com/home is a gicleé inkjet printer used by many top photographers, artists, design and photography schools, and museums. https://www.nasheditions.com is another gicleé inkjet printer used by many top photographers, artists, design and photography schools, and museums.

'Gicleé is the term used by folks who do the finest inkjet printing available, to deflect fears about inkjet printing. It's not your silly office inkjet technology, but rather, it is advanced, archival, color-accurate, wide gamut printing on the finest papers, canvases, and other substrates available. The printers are made by Epson and Canon. If you want the best, find someone using these printers. If you need the very best scans, find someone with a drum scanner (Hasselblad Flextight scanner).

I'm sure there are a number of labs that would be suitable. Google it!

Cibachrome (Ilfochrome) filled a unique niche (postive-to-positive color) and it's
dicontinuence in 2012 was a loss.

You could try Dale Laboratories in Hollywood, FL. They've been around since 1973.
They scan slides and do digital prints: all sizes, from 5" x 7" to 20" x 30". https://www.dalelabs.com
and https://www.dalelabs.com/bigenlgm.html

If you can find someone who can make an internegative from the slide and do an optical print,
that's better--but more expensive.

It's not inkjet if you call it "gicleé"
Its not plastic if you call it "resin".
It's not miniature format if you call it "full frame".

See how easy progress is! Makes you want to love Big Brother, doesn't it?

(Everything always gets better and better -- provided only that we continually lower
our expectations.)

Good Morning and I do appreciate the information given. Yes I realize the slides require scanning and I have the Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 that I use for my 35 and 220 mm slides. Since I no longer have a darkroom at home I need to farm it out and even though all of what I do is just for my benefit I still like quality work. I will check out the ones you have suggested and thank you so much for the advice.
