All Epsom home printers are water based ink so I think it will melt the colours. I did a full album for the farther in-laws he kept it in a cupboard next to the hot water tank the heat blended all the colours to a black swirl. Home prints should be kept flat. At room temperature for maximum shelve life

I think you're out of luck as far as cleaning the mold. However, if they are not too far gone, and you have the patience and software, you can restore the images.

This is an example of a scan of a severely water damaged print that I restored for a friend. It took me about an hour or so to get to this result.

MOST, not all of today's better photo paper is plastic coated. If yours are, let them dry really well in the open for a few days. You should then be able to brush them off or wipe them off with a lens cleaning micro cloth.

Gene51, that is good work. I have a box full of slides that look like that, you have inspired me to get to work on them.

Maybe a little time in direct sunlight, or UV light treatment, then brush off, blow off. Chemicals on old photos would require some test subjects. I hate mold!!!!!

Once mildew and mold are in your photos IT CANNON BE ERRADICATED. Segregate those ones. The spores and mycelium need only to get damp again to spread.
Dry flat and dust. To test for dampness put one in a Ziploc bag, seal and microwave a few seconds at a time watching for the bag to swell. If it swells, dry more. Repeat till dry and keep dry and seperate.

If you have a vaccuum food processor you might try that and some dessacant in the bag. Maybe even seal in a vaccuum and freeze. Freezer Burn is drying.

Thanks! It's a labor of love for certain. This image was one of the few keepsakes that a family devastated by hurricane Sandy was able to recover.

No, I can wipe prints from my Epson printer with a wet rag and it does not affect it one bit!

You folks are right, water seems to smear a little. However after wiping with my finger to get the rough stuff off, alcohol (70%) cleaned the rest off. Do you know if there is a fixative that will stop the mold from coming back? I live in a humid climate.

Thanks Bob but these photos are mounted and hung on the wall. It would take away from the image
to pack salt around them!
