One other suggestion, not a photo op but an enjoyable place to eat: Across the bay from Eureka is an old lumber crew cookhouse called the Samoa Cookhouse. Lots of old lumbering artifacts in the building, red checkered tablecloths on long tables, and you eat whatever they're serving for that meal -- all you want of any item. They started me off with two big slabs of fresh homemade bread, soup and a home-cooked style main course with vegetables and salad, cake for dessert. I think the dinner was about $17 - $18.

Yosemite is very far from the coast of California. It would take several hours, about five I think as I recall, to get to Yosemite and the crowds in June would be overwhelming. I would not do this detour. I live an hour and one-half away from Yosemite and stay far away from it in June.

its about 200 miles from the coast hwy to Yosemite.

Hello All.
I am sure this has already been covered and probably many times, but I cannot find this topic in Search. I am sure I am doing something wrong!?
I welcome any and all suggestions of great spots for photography along the California Coast from San Francisco to Eureka, and then heading to Happy Camp on the Klamath for some Gold Panning.
Pretty sure I will have greater luck capturing some good photos than gold nuggets but should be fun anyway!
The wealth of knowledge on this site always impresses me and the unselfish willing to help others is commendable.
Heading North on HWY 1 last week of June, 2019.
Appreciate your help!

Many good suggestions have already been posted. I have driven all of this, much of it several times and you will have a beautiful drive. I love to drive in the twisties, and one of my all-time favorite roads is CA 128 between CA 1 and Cloverdale. This road has a little of everything from sweepers to switchbacks. Also, the few miles from CA 1 are absolutely beautiful, enough for me to slow down and take it all in. Also note that Cloverdale is only a few miles from the Napa Valley. Enjoy the ride!

That's a long, twisty drive, but sure is beautiful. Just don't plan on covering too many miles per day.

Expect fog and high overcast ("the June gloom") on the Central Coast, with some sunny afternoons.
It will likely be sunny and quite warm in Happy Camp -- high around 84F, low around 47F.

I suppose you are going to one of those commercial gold panning places---should be a blast.

Real panning for gold is fun for about 15 minutes--after that it's hard, cold, wet work. Wet sand and
gravel is very heavy. But the commerical places give you a small pan and let you keep your feet dry.

BTW, California outlawed suction dredging for minerals in 2009, then the 9th Federal Court set aside
the law in 2015, but that ruling was overturned by the CA Supreme Court. In 2018, another challenge
to the law ws rejected by the US Supreme Court. So once again there are opportunities for intrepid gold
panners willing to dig into crevices. But if you do happen to see any suction dredges operating, you
probably shouldn't try to photography them -- since they are breaking the law and probably know it.
