I would NEVER, NEVER, EVER buy a house in a neighborhood controlled by a homeowners association, or a condo association. I refuse to have to bow down to those Nazis.

I moved to Florida, from Virginia, back in the late 60's, and LOVE it! Moved to Illinois in 1984 for a job, and hated it. Back home to Florida in 1985. Today is a JAPDIP day (Just Another Perfect Day In Paradise) :)

I live in sunny, southern California. What is this "Snow" of which you speak?

Then the HOA (HomeOwner's Association) Nazis would show up in their jeep with the 50-caliber gun mounted on it to demand that you: 1) Get rid of the goat, 2) Cut your grass, 3) Power-wash your sidewalk, and while you are at it: 4) Power-wash your roof because there is a little discoloration on the shingles and if that doesn't work you will need a new roof, 5) replace your fence, and 6) Repaint your shutters because the color does not comply with the mandatory color chart for the HOA. Welcome to Florida!
Then the HOA (HomeOwner's Association) Nazis would... (show quote)

I hate HOA's

I remember, years ago, in or near Hollywood, FL a Veteran installed a flagpole in his front yard and flew the American Flag. The HOA made him take it down. So he researched the HOA rules, and found there was no rule regarding the color(s) he could paint his house. He then painted the American Flag on his house, covering the entire front of the house. The HOA raised holy hell, demanding he remove it. He stood his ground. The HOA then changed their rules, but a court ruled he was grandfathered in, and they couldn't make him repaint.

Jerry, I've got a simple solution, I used to deal with all that stuff until my Wife and I moved to an apartment complex, I haven't shoveled snow since...let someone else do all the work.

I have been living in Florida for more than 40 years. No HOA's, have a lawn care service taking care of my lawn. Down to two trees on the property. (Thank you hurricanes) Only problems are red tide, fire ants and neighborhood cats.

BUT ...you wouldn't have to shovel snow

But you would have to shovel goat $h!t! Freshly fallen snow is pure and clean and you can eat it as it falls . Not so much as the second choice!

Second happiest day in a man's life is when he buys a boat.
The best happiest day in a man's life is when he sells it!

Amen! It took me five years to smarten up. Bought a new Lexus with the proceeds.
