Better Beamer ?????

Just purchased one and need advice. I have read that it will melt your flash and that makes sense. Do any of you have a solution to this problem short of the obvious just keep the sun off it? I was thinking of wrapping the flash or clipping a cloth to the front of the fresnal when not in use. Also any tricks on calibrating it to match your lens?? thanks.

The "melt" problem is if you leave it with Fresnel lens facing the sun for an extended period of time. Any other direction is fine, but why would you leave any photographic equipment laying in full sun?

Once your Better Beamer is properly attached to your properly mounted speedlight, take a few photos at night to judge flash exposure at a distance. With a zoom lens, a few photos will allow you to determine minimum focal length for proper coverage. Alignment can be adjusted by re-positioning the area of Velcro attachment between band and square applied to top of speedlight.

A Better Beamer focuses the output of a speedlight to match the coverage of a 300-mm (or longer) telephoto lens. I use mine to illuminate hummingbirds for high-speed photography.

I have a piece of cardstock that I cut to the width of the fresnel lens and then folded it in half. I have a paper clip on the fold of the cardstock....just slide the cardstock on and off as needed. I leave it on the beamer when I'm not using it or if I'm in the car and the beamer is on the camera, the cardstock will be on the fresnel lens. All just a precaution against the sun.
