Tripod Suggestions for Scooter Use

Not knowing which type of scooter you use is a problem both for myself who uses 2 types and others who don't use one at all.
Both of mine have swivel seats - one is 3 wheeled with handle bars & a basket that I carry my tripod in and just pull up at an angle swing my chair around & set up my tripod on all three legs.
the 6 wheeled electric chair has enough clearance in front of my feet as the controls is in the armrest - no handle bar - so I can set the tripod up at any direction front the seat.
Again I use a camera harness that keeps my camera handy on my lower chest at all times - the elastic allows movement to use the quick release on the tripod.
Good luck & get out & shoot.

There are several good tripod makers out there, Manfrotto being one of them. They have just introduced a budget line, that should fall right into your price range. All have independent leg angle adjustment, that allows then to remain level, with one leg three steps up the stairs. :)

Check out B&H Photo, and see if you can find your tripod there. They are a reputable company, and will have as good a price as any. And they don't sell gray shade stuff made by who knows who, like E-Bay.

You can use their E-Mail or on line voice

Hi Grammy!
I use a device made by Manfrotto every day, it's called a Magic Arm. They make a couple variations you may want to look at. I put one of their clamps on one end and a camera mount on the other end. It will swivel around at will to an infinate variety of positions. Check it out through this link:

Grammy, As a wheelchair user myself, I can relate to your situation. This suggestion of the arm and clamp is the one I was going to give you. It is the most affordable and practical.

Another option is the Manfrotto window mount. I will clamp onto a partially lowered car window. I know it won't address your problem while on the scooter but you might find it useful when you are still in the car.

Man, I would not want to clamp a DSLR to my car window! It probably works OK, but I'd never use it.

Jerry, it is quite solid. At least look at it before you reject it. I have some mobility issues and this thing helps me get some shots with less effort.

I have an odd situation I'd appreciate some suggestions for. I'm just entering the world of photography and am gathering my tools slowly. I am now looking towards a tripod. I would like to keep my cost to $150 or under if possible. My situation is I use an electric scooter to get around as I can't walk long distances. I love to take pictures of just about anything but the times I need a tripod can be difficult since the front legs that will be on the ground, need to be taller than the rear leg that will sit on the floor of my scooter. I believe that with practice I can figure out how to set that up but my question is two fold. First, is there a type/brand of tripod that may make this configuration a bit simpler and still be in my price range? And second, since the legs will be on different levels, any suggestions to keep them from slipping/sliding?

Thanks for reading and any suggestions you may have.

Check out the Dolica AX 620 B100. A real bargain. If you read reviews you may see one small problem reviewers mention. This involves the cork surface on the tripod head. If you PM me I'll tell you how to fix it super inexpensively that will not involve any hard work or change the appearance of the tripod. I'm a retired Photo equipment tech and I've fixed dozens of these.

Oh my goodness! I am totally overwhelmed by all the kindness and suggestions that you are all sending! I hope that you aren't offended if I just send a massive thank you to all instead of individual ones. The thanks are just as sincere to each and every one of you. I have quite a bit of homework to do!

My scooter is a four wheeler, the seat does swivel and I can have a front and rear basket so I do believe any and all of the suggestions made can be used.

Thank you all again for the help with this question and also for the encouragement in my newbie foray into photography. It is so nice to have people who give support, suggestions, critiques both good and bad, but who also follow the not so good comments with ideas of how to fix or change things to improve. This is the way we learn!

Have a great day all and thank you again.

Grammy

My friend who I go shooting with uses an electric cart, and we both purchased the Gorilla she wraps it around her handle bars of the scooter and it does the trick. In fact when we go to places I cannot use my tripod (rules of the place) and I will use the Gorilla on my shoulders to steady the camera I will look for the web site and send it... It is under $150. Also we shoot a lot from the vehicle...

Just noticed your location, if you ever come to Globe I can show you how I fixed the Dolica and cost less than $1.

I get you loud and clear, I used to live in the valley, my sister still does. And Globe is about the closest mountain town to the East Valley.

That might have something to do with tripod head you put on top.

I have done more research on tripod to help you than when I bought mine which I ended up paying over $350.
