I have seen others using a dslr tethered to a computer, I was wondering if this is possible with a Pentax k10d.

I have Pentax K-3, K-5, K-20D, and K-100D cameras. I once tethered the K-20D OK, but when I tried it with the K-5 the entire computer crashed and locked up. It took a few tries to "turn-off" the tethering program and reboot the PC back in to "functional" Windows. So be care and use the CORRECT tethering program for your K-10D. Not sure if Ricoh-Pentax provides such a product for such an old camera today. There are probably good commercial tethering programs out there, but for older or Pentax cameras, unsure.

The K-10D obviously has no WiFi or Blue-tooth so it would have to be wired usb. Why do you want tethering?

Just curious, right now I remove my sd card from the camera and insert into a card reader in my PC, which is not an issue, thanks for the reply

You might want to visit a Pentax forum and ask. A fellow photographer owning a K-1 required a firmware update before it was recognized. The tethering programs I've used allow you to select a destination. When I use CaptureOne, the image files don't even see my removable media and are transferred directly to my PC after an image is made.

Tethering is not primarily intended (just) for file transferring from a Camera to a Computer, it is mainly so you can view what the sensor sees in real time before you take the shot. Often this is useful while in Live-View in a portrait studio for getting a better assessment of lighting, color (white) balance, etc. than you get with the tiny thumbnail in the viewfinder or screen on the back of the camera. In the film days photographers often checked their set up and exposure buy first shooting a Polaroid. Also you can see better what your camera produced as a JPEG or captured as a RAW file on your "full sized" monitor.

Also it is similar to what one may do with a Drone (camera) with a LapTop on location. File Transfer either via SD Card or Camera to Computer USB Cable is after the fact of the image being recorded and much simpler. Some people use a Separate Card Reader if their computer does not have built-in ones. The least trouble free and least possible damaging with by file transfer via a USB Cable between camera and computer. Yes, ask in a Pentax Forum about Tethering.
