A few days ago someone was asking about taking pictures of the Blood Moon on January 20th. He/She was asking about using a D3400. Of course, I replied that the D3400 is more than capable and showed a example tat I took. Tonight when I was coming home from work, I saw a great waxing crescent. I got home and it was right above my neighbor's house. I didn't use my D3400, because I loaned it to my daughter. I used my D5600 and the 70-300 kit lens from the D3400. I bracketed exposures and this was the best. It was on a tripod at 300 mm and used a remote shutter release. 1/60 sec, f8 ISO 100. I used After shot Pro 3 to finish the raw image and cropped a whole bunch. In fact, this is down to 1 megapixel. The kit lens was pretty sharp as always. Since the sensor on this camera is the same as the D3400 I would expect the same result. BTW, this is at 78%. i looked at it at 200% and it was still pretty sharp. a I wish the person that was inquiring the best of luck on the 20th.
Beautiful shot! Nice in clarity...that's what I am working on now. Again...Nice!
Very useful narrative. Thks for sharing. Very nice shot too.
A beauty and a good tutorial.
Thanks, I would rather share my technique and hopefully, alleviate some of the frustrations we all have. I like bracketing. You bet I had a bunch of throwaways. Luckily, digital is cheap and not as big a loss as with film.

I think that was me (he) and I thank you for all the info. It’s how I will learn. Just got a new and more capable tripod. I have learned a lot from this site and my experiences to be more prepared for these shots. Thank you for sharing your experiences and shots to help me improve. If I manage to get an acceptable shot, I will post it.
Good luck and may the skies be clear for you.
