I like them all -- just as they are. Shows the girl like she is in the time she lives in. Yes time changes things, My great grand daughter graduated this past semester and the world she lives in is far from the way it was when I graduated. They have a great deal more to deal with than we did and she appears to deal with it nicely. Thanks for sharing.

i think you have a nice start here, but the difference between "nice" and the really good stuff is in the details.

Most of the people here know y view of the selective color stuff -by and large it is usually done poorly and it is usually just a "look at what I can do." In this case you have it backwards - if you really feel you have to do this, the part in color is where your eye will go and you took my eye to the background. I think it would be nice if it were all in color. I know, others like this, but it is SO 1995. :-)

While I am thinking about it, did you know that photographing on railroad tracks in most states is illegal? In every state it is trespassing. It is also overdone! Do not get caught.

In #s 2 & 5. watch the hands - not good placement. Would have been much better with the hands places up on the thighs - anywhere but where they are, actually.

#3 is really nice - best of the group. But we have the problem SO common with senior portraits of the girls - they love sleeveless tops and those bare shoulders and upper arms have as much or more skin area as the face. When you bring the arms up as in #3, the arm competes with the face for attention. I am very clear that they should bring a minimum (if any) number of sleeveless tops. Look at #5 and see how the arm competes with the face.

You did a nice job, My comments are just to help you improve. And stay off the tracks!

I think you did a great job. The clothes are what they wear now, did he expect a formal?

you did a very nice job - her parents will be in awe when you show them the photos you took...please take the comments from some of the critics here with a grain of salt...you are an amateur, not a professional - a very creative amateur I might add, and you are doing it for free...they will love the photos!

It helps if you Quote Reply so we know who "he" is. I did not expect a formal - just helping her improve by indicating the kinds of problems some tops present. Just because they wear it does not mean it photographs well. Bare shoulders and arms present problems.
Everyone is telling her how great these are and they really are pretty good. I am trying to help her see where to improve instead of all the pablum being posted. SHE says she values all the input.

Most of the posts do not help her one bit.

So - spot color is backwards, hands in the crotch are not good, bare shoulders are a problem, and railroad tracks are private property and shooting on them is dangerous and it is trespassing.

Sorry Captain, I always do that, not sure why I didn't on that one. My statement was in regard to Kaven post. Almost all the senior photos I have seen for several years have been casual everyday clothes. If I were doing it I would have asked for her to bring a couple of changes but what she has on was not bad. Your remarks, as always, were spot on.

Parents didn't have money for pictures so I thought I would give it a try. Do you think they are good enough, or any ideas on what I could have done better

I love the b/w frame shot - what a cool idea. To me some of them are too wide but hey, if she and her parents like them then you've succeeded.
Nice.

On the first one i'd prefer it switched to her being in color and the background B&W, that way she is what is most vibrant in the shot.
Photo #2 doesn't draw my attention, perhaps if it were shot a little tighter with the background less distracting. Photo#3 Great shot, draws you in and makes you want to know this person.Photo#4 would have benefitted from a really low perspective#5 I like better than #2 but the back ground clutter is still distracting. On a personal note you did well, I've seen far too many Senior shots that people paid way too much for.

Lovely girl , Shot's are very nice, they are " senior pics ", never saw rules they have to be perfect .If so, everyone should be in gowns and in studios with hair and makeup experts.
Good job.

If I could just note, you might want to ask the school (or schools if more than one in the area) about yearbook requirements. My oldest son worked on the school yearbook the last 2 years he was in high school and they were quite pickey about the type of shot (must be a bust shot) and the type of background (not too busy, nothing out doors). This was just the way this school liked their yearbook set up and each school is different. But it's something to keep in mind.

Just to add a bit: the tops of the rails are polished indicating that that is an active line. So, not only is it dangerous to be there, it is also illegal=for both of you

all the pictures are great with the exception of the few minor distractions. Now can I have her phone number

You are a baaaaaaaaaaaaaad boy.

But you did such a great job of making her beauty shine!! And that makes her so attractive to anyone!! Would be a joy to know such a beauty, and to have the 'privilege' of taking her pics.

For the styles of today's youth, I think the outfit is just what she wanted because that is how she feels the most comfortable. I just wish I could have used clothing like that when I was a senior back in the late 60's instead of HAVING to wear suit or sport coat.

You did a very good job, keep practicing with her and see how SHE likes the results!
