Dogs & Photography
Just wow enjoy both (dogs & Photos ) Be safe and show us the pic's.
I am a only child and grew up on a farm. I had a malamute names Tippy. Tippy was my best friend from toddler on and would get me in trouble as I couldn’t unlock the gate around the house but she could. More than once I was found holding onto her tail and following her out of site on adventures as a toddler. Couldn’t have asked for a better companion.
Broke my heart when I had to be the final deciding vote to have her put to sleep to sleep to put her out of suffering when around 7. Still get teary eyed about it as I wrote now.
This Xmas our twins wish for a dog finally came true and we have Dakota, a 21 month old English Springer Spaniel as a new member of the family. Mom had terrible experience with family dog terrorizing her as a child and it took 6 years of asking Santa for a dog till she gave in. I too am getting to adapt to photographing with a dog. The grey heron I love to take pictures of is not a fan of him. LOL.

I have a Border Collie (Smudgey) best friend I have ever had, we walk 3 times a day. I always get the same complements "he is so well behaved wish mine was like that" One must understand that when one decides to have a pet, you must be willing to invest the time and attention so that both owner and Dog learn about each other. You have beautiful animals for sure, but they will always require time and attention.
My son got a female shepherd too. I couldn’t walk her she pulled was way too strong.
He sent her to boot camp for 2 weeks of training. It was were they trained guard & police dogs.
She was way better when she got home. But with both of these dogs they are strong willed in body & mind.
I would love them both too but you might have to realize you can only keep one now. A hard on the heart decision. You had the right intentions but your not as able as you once were.
Is there anyone in the family that can take one of them.
Dogs are great! They are friendly, curious and want & need love. They are loyal! Just look at the photo of President George H.W. Bush's dog "Sully". The caption of the photograph of him read Mission Complete. It is a photograph like that which tell a fantastic story. I have a Labrador Retriever/Dalmatian mix. His name is Bentley. All of his spots are on his belly. He gets stubborn but knows my wife is the Alpha. He doesn't mess with her. He is a constant source of joy and fur!!
I currently have 3 dogs (had 4 up until August 27th) and love taking picture of them. I've put on a lot of miles walking dogs over the last 15 years. Unless properly trained those dogs will alway be a handful to walk. When off leash I'd be worried they would run off and I wouldn't be able to find them, get hit by a car, in a fight with another dog or bite someone. Work on training them one at a time. As others of said you need to be the alpha dog or you will alway have trouble. Do some research on how to train a dog. You won't regret it and will make walking them enjoyable. Love your pictures. I'd like a german shepard sometime, but not when we have three others.
You have a wonderful pair of dogs. I had 2 German Shepherds for 4 years and the male died of bloat 3 years ago, so I now have just the female but she is 115 pounds of fun and company. They seem like a lot of work but they will keep you young as they say!

Sounds to me like you need to get serious about some dog training. I love dogs but without some training and discipline they can be difficult to live with. Even females want to be the alpha dog if the owner doesn't fill that space. No criticism intended, JMHO.
Right on! My Daughter raises Rottweilers, expensive ones, She has always given them obedience training when They are puppies. They are so nice and obedient that They would make great lap dogs if they weren't so big and heavy. I myself have always leaned towards German Shepard's.
Nice pics. I really like the individual one of your mal. 20+ years ago we used to show malamutes and bred a few litters. At one point we had upwards of 30 because we did some housing for rescue as well. Cool dogs, but strong willed.
Raising a dog from a puppy does keep you busy. My Brittany is now 2 1/2 and he is now somewhat independent which makes me more independent. Training is a lifetime commitment. Even if you board them out for training you still have to keep it up when they get home. Your dogs are beautiful- enjoy.
I trained both my current dog and my previous dog to sit on a loose leash while I take a photograph. I only use a small camera for this and when the dog hears the zipper on my fanny pack, he sits and waits. We have lovely walks as I wait (but don't sit) while he sniffs what he wants.
Hi,
I can feel you! But couldn’t resist a giggle 😁
I have taken over two Border Collies a few months back and haven’t touched my camera since.
Long story short: first thing I taugt them was to come, second one to sit.
All I need for pictures!
I’ve my cam with me a lot these days and take pics of them or let them sit by my side while taking pics of something else.
All trained with treats, I always take with me.
Love your pics of snow, play and fun! Good luck with your two :)

Beautiful dogs. A friend of mine has two large dogs and he said taking them for a walk is like being chained to a car crash in progress. Lol
