Morning all. I have a frustrating situation, and hope someone can help. I have Photoshop Elements 15 but this could apply to older or newer versions I suspect. After opening the program in the expert mode and importing an image, a small box maybe 2x2 inches opens over in the top corner instead of the full sized image. It isn't a thumbnail showing the whole image, but just a very small portion of it showing a piece of the corner. I click on View, then Fit on Screen and it does open fully, but it used to do that automatically. So question 1 is, what do I change to make it do that. Question 2 is if I select several images to open at once, I want them all to load full size behind the first one in the Cascade mode, where the corners of the other images are slightly visible behind the first. It used to do that too. I have tried many things, but I got nothing here. Thanks for your help..... Andy
That has happened on a few occasions to me as well. With me, it reverted the next time I opened the same image. I use Elements 2018

Toxdoc, it happens every time I open the program. I probably checked or unchecked something by mistake, but I have no idea what. Andy
1> Go to preferences and uncheck "Allow Floating Documents"
2> However (There is always a However)
You need to allow floating documents to have them cascade.
The option for cascading is reached from the menu bar:
Windows/Images

I ran out of time to edit, but found something else.
If you open images and they are in the floating squares you can go to the menu bar.
Windows/Images/Consolidate all to tabs.
That will go back to having one image open with tabs for the rest.

Bill- Thanks. I was able to uncheck the floating documents and now the image opens full size. Im good with that. I tried to get the cascade back under Window in the menu bar, and that "consolidate to all tabs" is greyed out and unavailable. If youre saying its either one or the other, then Ill be happy with now being able to open the image in full size again. I would've thought for sure that I wanted floating docs and never wouldve unchecked that without your help. Andy

As best I can tell it is one or the other on open.
Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks for your help Bill
Elements 2018 does the same thing. If one can figure out why it’s happening and how to deal with it I guess it’s OK. My beef is, why would Adobe set the program up to work that way in the first place!? Why not have the newly opened file open in the center of the screen in a size that displays more than a one inch square? Or better yet, have the new file open in docked mode and let the user undock it when they want to. When I checked the “allow floating windows” box, I didn’t realize it would make that mode the default operating method. It should only function as an option that the user can use when they want to float a particular window.
Stan
If you typically open more than one photo at a time, open them all as floating documents. Once they are open, use the options under Windows/images to float some or all of the opened images. Those not floating will be in the bin, as usual.
Keep in mind, we are just talking about a couple of mouse clicks.
