This Red Cardinal landed in my backyard ..
This isn't a common bird in the Netherlands, so I wrote a few lines on the internet that this Cardinal was hanging around here .
Soon the owner of a bird Aviary showed up and looked at the images I took and yes , it was his bird that escaped from his Aviary.
He put a trap cage in the backyard with seeds and other goodies, and after a few hours he got his bird back..
He retuned happy home with his little red friend...

Nice photo and an unusual situation - glad you could get it back where it will be cared for!

Thx for viewing and comment, and yes the bird is back where it belongs, I guess it wouldn't have survived in freedom ...

Really nice shot, Fons. Glad it made it home. It may not have survived in the wild being so out of place.

Very good work on the photo and saving the bird, Fons! When I was stationed in Germany, my landlady had a small aviary. Her male cardinal had virtually no color, I assume from inbreeding and very little time in the natural sunlight.

The owner showed me images he took from the bird when he bought it, and they were similar to mine, the funniest part was that he just lived around the corner, and he showed me afterward his Aviary where he kept all his beauties...No DOUBT what so ever....

Actually, they are winter hardy. The problem comes from predators and no mates. I suspect the aviary may have a female waiting for him to come back.

At least, now, you have a great photograph of a male cardinal.
