I have no complaints with the PO system. When you consider what they do and what they charge, it's a bargain. I've gotten and received overnight delivery of Priority mail, and packages are delivered to my door. When you figure they deliver about 660 million pieces of mail a year, they do okay.

All delivery systems are screwed up this time of year. I have a small home business and send ~400 packages a year. I sell only in the US, using Priority Mail small flat rate boxes. The boxes are free, I usually get 1-3 day delivery to anywhere, with tracking, I print the postage labels on plain paper using the USPS software, and just put the boxes in my mailbox for pickup. ALL boxes I've ever shipped in the last 8 years have been delivered (to the address the customer gave - THAT was a problem with a couple of customers) and almost all of them in the 2-3 day window the USPS predicts. No system, certainly not one as large as the USPS, can be perfect, but for value and convenience I think Priority Mail is pretty hard to beat.

Is is strictly a matter of opinion! The USPS cost me a set of books that were almost irreplaceable. Luckily I had them insured. UPS or FEDX could do just as well and probably for less money! Ther is too much inefficeincy too many people sitting on their dff collecting a big paycheck, perks and retirement that I pay for. I wish and hope the USPS goes BELLY UP TODAY!

Just so you know, the USPS is self funded from sales of postage and shipping and uses ZERO tax dollars. It is ONLY paid by those using its services. So you only pay for it if you use it.

How do you know of those accusations? Proof?

Yep - they went private in '71 - that's the year my dad (rural carrier) decided to retire...
Current status: UPS and FedEx pay the Postal Service to deliver hundreds of millions of their ground packages, and USPS pays UPS and FedEx for air transportation. ... The Postal Service receives NO tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.

You can send a Christmas card by the USPO to Nowheresville Hollow, Montana for 43 cents or whatever the current stamps are. I wonder how much UPS or FedX would charge.

So no matter what the facts are, you are saying you are right and nothing else matters. HMMMM where have I heard that before?

Then based on current UPS and Fedex pricing (have you compared that to USPS priority mail recently?), it will cost you roughly 2x to ship items, if that’s something you ever do. I’m also wondering how you will receive mail such as bank statements, certified communications, social security and Medicare information, medical and insurance documents, IRS, local and state tax transactions, jury summons, drivers license and auto registration info - I could go on. Now the argument may be that all these services could be handled electronically and many are, but we are nowhere near implementing that for all these and many other services, and that leaves out the vulnerabilities of the internet system. Even though we are moving to electronic B2B and personal communication and documents, there are actually still a few things in most people’s mailboxes of importance in addition to junk mail. In the future, mail may become obsolete, but we’re not there yet. And on a personal note, I’d miss Christmas cards 😢. Better wait a little while longer before the USPS goes belly-up.

I agree. They are constrained by Congress from adapting an improved and more streamlined business model and who would deliver their mail postage free.

I have no real complaints with the postal service. I know that just like any business, there will be problems from time to time but other than delays, with the quantity they handle they are pretty good.

I sent a pkg. via USPS to our son in Guam in early Dec. It got there in 7 days, halfway around the world. No complaints here.

A friend sent a small package to me from Casper, WY on Dec. 17 via Priority Mail.
Just arrived in Washington this afternoon.
Does anyone really wonder why the US Mail can't compete with the private sector?

Sorry about your experience. My agitation with tales like these is that extra payment was tendered for faster service and the service was not provided. Should be a financial remedy.....

I posted in the early summer about a similar incident with FedEx, a priority shipped package (camera) went 2000 miles out of the way and sat over memorial day weekend for FOUR days in an outdoor holding facility in 100+ weather.......

Every service is prone to terrible performance on individual occasions, but in my experience FedEx is so consistently slow to my area that I don't buy from sellers unless they ship by other methods.

I've found that priority mail is about the same as first class mail. However, whenever I've sent documents Express Mail, they've arrived as promised, and much cheaper than FedEx.

I send stuff to my daughter in Massachusetts from California and it is there consistently in three days. Since my daughter won't be there i ask the package to be placed inside the entry door. The postman has done it every time. We shipped boxes of her books and albums by UPS and they never arrived. I order from Amazon and its here in two days by Post. Compared to prices in other countries our postal service is a bargain. I have a Stamps.com account and get a postage discount too.
