I'm presently shooting with a 5D Mark2 and am considering upgrading to a 5DSR.
E Bay ads offering many at half of listed original price. Is there a problem with this camera?
Should I scrap the 5DSR idea? All comments will be appreciated.

The 5DS/r models are loved by those who love them. But, they have some performance limitations vs the general purpose 5DIV, while providing Canon's highest sensor resolution. It would certainly be an upgrade in all capabilities vs the 5DII. But, you might want to review your computer platform and assure you have the editing software, diskspace (primary and back-up) and the processor speed and RAM needed to handle the filesizes generated by a 50.6MP body.

The high MP bodies of both Nikon and Canon began to expose limitations of older lenses. Canon came out with a list of "recommended" lenses for the 5DS/r models that can be summed up as: all / only v II L-lenses. Look at your lens portfolio too as a possible deciding factor.

I have been using & enjoying the 5Ds for almost 2 yrs now & consider it an outstanding piece of equipment producing when I of course do my part in outstanding photos -- Then again I could say that about any camera I have ever used. As for the 5dsr I have yet to encounter any negative comments -- As with any camera with a high pixel count good to very good glass should be used -- But then again why would anyone invest in superior equipment and then use inferior lenses & then go ahead & blame the damn camera. If your smart you don't run regular gas through a race car

Are these offered cameras used or new gray market? Or even used gray market?
If new gray market then you will have no Canon warranty - any warranty offered will be from non factory third party repair facilities.

If it's sold used on ebay, it wouldn't have a warranty from Canon anyway ...

Duh! Who'da thought a used item doesn't have a factory warranty. Actually many products do have transferable warranties, just not Canon cameras.
Note I did an edit and put the word "new" in front of gray market in sentence two. I actually typed "Or even used gray market?" after finishing sentence two as an after thought and forgot to point out that the comment about no warranty applied to the new gray market.

The 5D Mark IV has many more features and options then the 5Dsr, although with a lower resolution sensor. Have you compared the feature set of both with you normal shooting preferences and requirements?

Chg Canon:
Thanks for the great advice. I think I might have all the bases you mentioned covered. Most all of my lenses are "L" lenses. lots of computer memory and a great desire to produce better images.

Ken: I'm grateful for the green light knowing the positive comments of the 5DSR.
Amazon has a fully reconditioned like new, & guaranteed 5DSR at $2295 that has given me motivation.

I LOVE shooting with my 5DSr. I good light, it is fantastic. It does not have the high ISO of my 5Div, and the burst rate is slow. But for landscapes, studio, macro, and general photography in good light, it will render an image with amazing detail and beautiful color.

You bring up an excellent point -- Definition of "low light photography" & expectations of the equipment to be used
Mine is 100ISO; Tripod; Set the camera on "live View" with "Expo. Simulation"; Press remote button & let the camera & lens take over
The attached was taken that way shutter = 2.5 seconds

Upgrade? Yup, it is, IF you have been using the Mk II for still-life photography. In addition to the video this camera introduced it still gave the important features for still-life. Neither the Mk II nor the SR will give you much in action shots, they are not designed to do that. Wedding shooters actually used it frequently, still life. Do some more research on the SR model, it is designed for a specific application that is rather limited in scope. There will be some bad rap about the camera that usually is issued by someone who was mis-informed and had unreal expectations. Not a valid critique.
