Would be interested in purchasing this for my son who is New to photography. my email is bernie88@me.com. Thanks.
This photo was taken with my 30d. It's a generation older than the 40d. It's only 8.2 MP. I'd keep the 40d. It's got live view and would be a great first camera since the color out of camera is great!
Holy Smokes!! The EOS 40D is a fine camera today! I acquired one couple of years ago to go with my 60D. Even added a battery grip. I wouldn't give it up for anything (except a trade for a 50D). Nice to have two bodies to share my lenses. 10 megapixels is not a "handicap" unless you have to do VERY large blowups, and even that is highly subjective.
It will use ANY EF-mount lens ever made. Does Live View.
Problem with a 28-135 lens is, on a crop-factor camera, it doesn't give wide-angle coverage...equal to 45-216mm. I replaced my 28-135 with a used (but perfect) Canon EF-S 17-85 USM from mbp.com and got money back on the trade.

Wow. You got money in that exchange. I would have figured it went the other way. I'm watching a couple of lens at mpb, com. Never use them b4. What's your experience? BTW I have a 40D.

This kit would also make a great starter kit for interested newbies or a P&S/Cell Phone shooter looking for a DSLR to learn on..

I was pleasantly surprised too, though it was only $6.00 back. Very happy with the experience. Their description said condition was "Like New" and it was.

Hi
In clearing out some of my Parents older items, I came across a Canon EOS 40D, along with a 28-135 macro lens and a 70-300 IS lens. My guess is that these are at least 10 years old, maybe older, but appear to be in very good shape, and I would guess have been stored since at least 2008.
Are these worth even trying to sell, or possibly give to a friend getting into photography and wanting some equipment just to start with, or are they so old that the setup would just be frustrating?
Quick look online shows it was a good model a decade ago at 10MP, but not sure if it is worth bothering with at all now.
thanks in advance

Just sold my old 40D on Ebay for $300.00 . . . body only. I would say it's "worth bothering" with.

Wow. You made out. That money could get a 60D!
40D is a good body, but I agree the lens has a greater value. Perhaps an option would be to contact a camera club in your area to see if they could use it for a new or needy member?
Thanks for all of the information. Short term, will remain with my mom, but will pursue what to do with it on her behalf now that I know is worth putting in some effort
Closing out topic
The 40D is a good camera, the only issue I had with it was the Pop up flash quit working. It was still under warranty at Best Buy and they would not fix it and they said it was not worth sending to Canon for fixing since this was a supposedly known problem with the flash. I learned that the supposed warranty that they sell is not a warranty per se but a service contract. As a result I got the 50D at the same price I paid for the 40D and have been very happy with it. I was also happy with the 40D until the flash went south on me at my sons High school graduation. Both cameras had the 28-135MM kit lens which I like very much. I am here am looking at purchasing a 100-400MM before July.
