Miami has some great old lifeguard towers. South Pointe Pier has a very nice sea wall next to it (the pier itself isn't very interesting), great beach, and great lifeguard towers. Turn your camera around for shots of high rises behind dunes. Maybe get some shots of cruise ships coming/going. In December, the sunrise lines up with the pier/sea wall.
Vizcaya Museum & Gardens are a must see. Amazing architecture; got to see it to believe it. To get the iconic sunrise shot, you need a boat.
Shark Valley in the Everglades is great if you like birds. I got pictures of a Snail Kite and a Purple Gallinule there. It's a great use for your Tamron G2. Beautiful panorama from the tower. If you legs are up for it, I recommend renting a bike rather than taking the tram. Much more flexible from a photography perspective.

I photographed a lot of the Art Deco architecture when I was there including this hotel. This isn't my photo. I was shooting film at the time and haven't had the negatives scanned.
