most probably this argument has been deeply discussed but once again is not bad , i have a Nikon D800 and one D3 and i need a wide angle lens wider than 14/24 mm , i want to buy the Nikon 10/20 AF-P DX refurbished for $239.95 by Nikon what will be the problems connected with this combination ?
If you have other alternative at same price pls tell me
regards
The Nikon cameras automatically detect the Nikon DX lens and crop the results at the sensor, throwing away 50% of the sensor's pixel resolution in the resulting image files. After the crop, you're back to the field of view of a 15mm lens at the wide end.
You may or may not get wider angle coverage than you 14-24mm lens. You can zoom to 10mm but there will be vignetting and you may get about the same angle of view as the 14mm but with smaller image area. Simply stated it wouldn't work.
I don't think they make any non fish eye lens that is shorter than 14mm for the 24x36mm format.
thanks again for your prompt answers , i will use my 14/24 that is a very nice lens
I have this lens and love it.

2 or 3 shot the image and stitch together
Nikon's 10-20mm AF-P DX will cover full-frame usage in the 18mm - 20mm range. Less than that, the corners of the frame darken (I hesitate to say 'vignette' since we usually think of a vignette as something more subtle, and the falloff is really quite abrupt). The lens performance is actually quite excellent, assuming one is alright with the less 'professional' feel of modern plastics. The only complaint I have with the lens has no bearing whatsoever on your application: it cannot be manually focused when used in a hybrid fashion on my mirrorless Fuji bodies.

Of course it will work but it produces an angle of views equal to 15 to 30mm so nothing is gained in AOV and loosing a lot of pixels. Foolish approach.

A DX lens will project an image that is circular on an FX sensor. What you will likely end up with is an image that is slightly narrower than the full frame with round edges, and the top and bottom will be cut off - so it will look like an oval. Some lenses have a wider field than others.
The 10.5mm DX Fisheye has a field of view that will cover FX , but the hood gets in the way. People have modified the hood, removed it, etc to get it to work on an FX camera.
But this is a moot point if you consider the amount of volume deformation that such a wide lens will have. The expansion at the edges and corners will be absolutely horrible. As others have already suggested, you are way better off using a longer focal length and shooting a stitched pano to get the angle of view you want - unless there is a compelling reason to not do this.
Then there is this:
https://www.sigmaphoto.com/12-24mm-f4-5-5-6-dg-hsm-iiI don't know how good it is, but it is 12mm at the wide end and it does cover FX format.

You said you want something wider than 14mm, so the problem is that if you put that 10-20 on your full frame, it's not wider than 14mm, but longer!
Irix 11mm. widest rectilinear full frame lens. love it.

I suggest looking at the Irix Gianfranco, it is a full frame 11mm and not overly expensive but manual focus. Happy 2019!
