I loaded nukes in Germany 66-68. Back then nuclear war was almost a certainty, it was just a matter of when it would start. I always felt bad for the tankers at Fulda gap. They had to be a prime target

They sure were.
I was infantry and we were told we were expected to last at most 3 days.

If I remember right the plan was not to hold the gap, but to slow the enemy down, in which case you were pretty much expendable. Bad times...thank God it’s over. Nuclear war is something nobody wins and everybody loses big time

Very interesting; love the drama in the narrator's voice. A a toddler, I somewhat remember 3 B-36's flying overhead for the Fourth of July, in the mid-50's. They made a really weird noise because their pusher propellers were hit by the slipstream created by airflow over the wings...it resulted in a lot of vibration and odd resonance sounds. I believe that's why few modern planes ever used the pusher-propeller setup.

You are right.
My team also scouted and marked on maps little dirt roads across valleys from the main roads in the mountains where a firing position could be set up to shoot vehicles on the road across the valley and stop or slow them down.
Also those manholes at either side of a bridge were there to blow charges to destroy the bridge.

You might want to check again. And while your at it look up the meaning of intolerance and hate too.

Disagreement isn't hate, disagreement isn't intolerance.

The Repubs are ok with disagreement and they tolerate dissenting views (they don't try and crush them or punish them for holding to them)

The modern left (dems) are the most hateful and intolerant group I've ever seen.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? Have you actually watched President Trump? The guy who calls for his opponents to be thrown in jail. The guy who campaigns AGAINST incumbents in his own party if they dare to speak against him. The guy who disparaged John McCain, a genuine war hero, because John wouldn't kiss his ring. The guy who claimed that a federal judge couldn't possibly be fair because of his Latino heritage. The guy who just reneged on a deal with Congress to fund the government because that bastion of tolerance Rush Limbaugh didn't like the deal. Why should the Democrat House ever accept his word again? The Republicans in Congress are afraid of their own leader because he might turn on them and crush them next election. He is the embodiment of hate and intolerance. He is also a draft dodging coward whose rich daddy obtained a phony medical report of a non-existing bone spur in his foot in order to keep him out of the military. There were literally thousands of young men, my father included, trudging through the jungles of southeast Asia with feet that hurt more than anything Mr. Trump has ever experienced. If you can't see hate and intolerance emanating from him, I'm afraid that you need your eyes checked.

This is not an attic subject.
Keep your vitriol for the President out of this conversation.
Start your own hate America and President thread elsewhere.
Thank you.

Was the guy keeping track of all the data guys like you sent in...still can't mention doing that without a shiver...

Even though the 50 year limit on classification has come and gone I discarded a powerpoint presentation I had been working on to show during a military awareness/appreciation program here at this CCRC last November.

Take a closer look. rpavich started it with his comments about democrats being hateful and intolerant. His remarks were in response to an accurate observation that BOTH sides in Washington are expressing too much hate and intolerance. Then you gave him 3 thumbs up, which I assumed meant that you yourself have turned your post into a political "attic subject." Your very objection to my post proves which side embraces hate and intolerance. I simply stated facts that are easily verifiable. Or is it truth in general that you object to? What do you see in any of my posts that indicates that I hate America? What I really hate is hypocrisy.

Here's another propaganda film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_jbMrXcVmw The gist of this film is that a serviceman on leave visits a town that without his knowledge decided to show it's residents what it would be like to live under communist rule. Dated by today's standards, but a propaganda film none the less.

What's special about this one is the my dad was the assistant director. It's only one of many on which he worked during that time of his military career. Some of the directors with whom he worked were John Huston and John Landis. Some of the actors in these films were folks just starting their careers and acting in any movie they could. I believe the featured actor in this film is Biff McGuire. He also worked with Jack Lemon and Boris Karloff. I was about 3 years old at the time and did get to visit and sit in on the making of some of the films. That was an interesting treat.

Yep, and all of the classified stuff was in Clancy's first book, the Hunt For Red October.
