[quote=amfoto1] "The Canon EF 28-135mm IS USM is a "sleeper" in the system. I know several pros who use it.

Even though it was an old design, dating from the film days, and one of the first Canon lenses to get IS, the "problem" with the 28-135mm was that it was too good! Canon discontinued it a year or so ago, perhaps because it was eroding sales of their 24-105Ls and some other more expensive lenses. "

Thanks for expanding on the Canon 28-135MM. I bought my lens from a professional camera person here in Oregon. He stated that the lens was a little loose front seal when collapsed. I just use a wide rubber band used for celery stocks.
I was conservative when I rated this lens as "good" when in fact I have created some very nice photos. I use this lens most of the time. Then the 24MM pancake and followed with the Tamron 70-300. You can see "John B" in Flickr and view each lens in my groups for examples.

The 80D is semi Professional level. Just not a complete metal frame like the 5 series . However, I recently drop my 80D with the 28-135mm lens from about 3 + feet to our formica floor. I used my foot to help break the fall. No damage to lens or camera....WHEW.
Being o l d with arthritis just sucks. LOL

I made the same switch and absolutely no regrets. I carry my 80D everyday, meets my needs just fine. It's a great price point. Allowed me enough to add some lens with it. Definitely a good upgrade. Have fun shooting.

i started with a Canon T2i and over the years gradually have moved up to an 80D. you will not be disappointed. It has many great features. I never found anything to complain about except for its typical crop sensor complaint of noise at high ISO's.

Luckily I have a Nikon D750 that I can use in those situations. The 80d is truly a dream to shoot.

Crad, I am a Canon guy and own both those models as well as several other Canon bodies. I am a real estate photographer and the T3i was my main camera for that work for a number of years. I almost always used it for auto exposure bracketing for available light. As that model will only shoot 3 images in AEB, I would take a set of 3 over-exposed image, readjust, and take the 3 underexposed images. It performed very well for my purposes, however, I became concerned about the number of shutter actuations due to its age. Last year I replaced the T3i with the 80D which has proven to be a terrific camera for that work, as it will bracket 3, 5 or 7 images. Highly recommend the 80D.

I upgraded from a Canon SX 40 HS bridge camera to an 80D as my first DSLR a couple of years ago and couldn't be happier. My most used lenses are the EF-S 18-135 and EF 70-300. I've also got an EF-S 10-18 that I got in a 2 lens bundle with an EF 50 for $40 over the price of the 10-18. I have shot thousands of photos (probably on the order of at least 30,000 so far). I like the size, weight and the reach I get with the EF 70-300. My most used lens is the 18-135; I use the 70-300 mostly at the sports car races. If you get the 80D, I highly recommend the book "Canon EOS 80D for Dummies."
