A few weeks ago I posted that I had ordered a new Nikon D7200 for a very, very low price from New York. Thanks to those who responded about it being a grey import, I was able to cancel the order before it shipped. So with that in mind, this evening I ordered the same camera from B&H, who is a registered Nikon importer from what I understand. Granted, the price was a bit more, but at least I have the satisfaction of a warranty if needed. So, thank you all for the heads-up advice. My Christmas gift to me will be here in the afternoon of the 26th, or so they say.

Other than "warranty if needed" it is the same camera.

Congratulations on a great camera that will be protected for one year from Nikon USA. Make sure after you try out the camera and everything works, and then register on line and SAVE THE SALES RECEIPT as you will need a copy of it if you have to send it in for repairs under warranty.
https://www.nikonusa.com/register/

And if you don't save your sales receipt you can print one from the B&H site for years to come. Nothing worth shouting or worrying about.

Yes but beware as B&H also sells grey market items, and they don't make the grey market items really obvious. The key is to look for the word "import" in the B&H sale info on the web site.

The use the word "international" also.

It is a very fine camera, enjoy it and I'll bet you never will need that warranty (but it is a good thing to have); Merry Christmas and a Ho Ho Ho to yourself!!

Is there a company out there making “knock-off” Nikon’s? Most of my gear I bought in Australia while I was living there. If you get a better price on a Nikon, or whatever is that a bad thing? Sigma is advertising Imported from Japan... what’s the big fuss?

The fuss is all about who imports the Nikon. If it's imported by Nikon, they will honor the warranty of it's needed. If imported by anyone else, you're out of luck with warranty issues unless you want to send it back to Asia, or Canada (so I'm told.)

Hmm. Does this policy cover your gear outside the home?

For those interested, the article at the following link is a good summary of what is grey market gear.
