Love the pics, even without the Duke! Have skirted all around this area, but never been there. Darn!

I still would like someone to photoshop a shadow of the Duke on a couple of pictures and see what a "ghostly" effect it might make . . . .

Hello Allen, I spend a lot of time in Monument Valley, Several times a month. If your going to use one of the tour companies take the early morning tour to the totem poles, request a visit to Susie Yazzie's Hogan after your sunrise shoot. If you want to do a evening shoot have them bring you to the Tear Drop. How many days will you be there?

Bruce

Bruce, where are you? I'm in Globe.

One more showing the East and West Mitten and Merrick Butte. The road and the cars help show the scale.

It looks unbelieveable. I've booked our flights and our tour from Denver to Las Vegas. Now we just have to wait till next May!

I spent some time there while in the Army. Take your photos in the morning if possible. In the midday the rich colors of the landscape are washed out by the high sun.

Wear a hat to keep the sand out of your hair and eyes.

Thanks to all of you who have given great suggestions, shown photos, and even mentioned other sites to behold while in the area. I now wish I had allowed about double my time just so I could experience it all in one trip. However, by not getting it all in, it gives us an excellent excuse to come out and visit again, and again. Allen

That was my mistake. We did Monument Valley as a side trip on our way to the Grand Canyon and San Diego. We did a quick loop in the late afternoon, not even staying overnight. Next time we'll stay in the hotel and get the sunrise lighting as well as the sunset, which was fantastic.

In the evening there may or may not be a lot more dust in the air but the red sand and rocks are accentuated by the setting sun.
