I’ll just add. I had a fairly expensive SCSI interface scanner which I wanted to use on my Windows 7/10 machine. I had an appropriate HBA (card), an Adaptec 2940 U/W with the correct PCI interface and the correct cable, BUT the scanner application required an ASPI which had never been written for anything past XP (and yes, I tried to get it to run in comatability mode with no success). Since it was a $1500 scanner (slow, but very high res), I opted for the suggestion above - hooked it to an old XP machine dedicated to the task and added it to the network, so now, when I scan with it, I briefly store the image on the machine’s local HD and then transfer it over the network to my editing machine.

Probably the best dongle for your scanner will be an old PC and an old OS, I have a nikon scanner not really supported beyond Nt or windows 2000
I managed to get it to run in a virtual machine running Windows 2000 which has access to the 32 bit scsi card. The host operating system windows 7 doesn't recognise the card but it can share the folders on the virtual machine.

You might get somewhere with an old machine running Linux, Linux tends to support a lot of old hardware way beyond what Windows would.

This is actually what I want. Thanks. I'll keep looking. BTW, I do have all the elements you mentioned, just the card is too large for my new computer. Not interested in ANOTHER computer just to operate the scanner.

Oh, the card is Adaptec.

Oh, the card is Adaptec. Don't know what ASPI is.

Which Adaptec?

An ASPI is a SCSI programming interface that is part of the application package. The SW application for your scanner (ArtixScan) may or may not require one, but many do.

When you say the card is too long, do you mean that it’s a full length card and you don’t have room in the case? Is the interface connector correct? (It would plug in if you had the room?). Any chance you could move cards around so it could go in a longer slot? If not, there are half length Adaptec SCSI cards (such as the 1500 series) that are inexpensive used and MAY be a solution. It will need the correct connector for the cable (is it 50pin or 68pin?), a correct driver for your OS, AND you’ll need to determine the specifics of the SCSI interface on your scanner. Is it single-ended or differential? LV?, etc? There are a lot of variables in SCSI and plugging into the incorrect port can instantly destroy the scanner and/or the card, plus there’s the termination issue (which the card may or may not handle automatically). Not a trivial business...

DB25 was an old Mac SCSI connector - not used on modern implementations of SCSI... the scanner is DB50 fast SCSI. There are A few adapter cables on EBay that are actually USB to SCSI, but none have modern drivers (XP is the latest), 1 or 2 are DB25, and even the Adaptec says they are not for use with scanners. The majority are USB to SATA and mention SCSI only because SATA drives use the SCSI command set.

You might want to call MicroTek (if they are still in business) since they made the scanner and see if they have any suggestions. I really understand not wanting to trash a $1,000 scanner. I had the same dilemma (and I know SCSI pretty well), and ultimately I ended up going the old XP computer route, but since you said this isn’t an option for you, I don’t have a good solution short of trying the original manufacturer if still around. Sorry...

Btw, if you go looking for another card, you want a fast narrow single-ended SCSI card with a 50 pin connector - not LVD, not Ultra SCSI, not wide, not differential - something from Adaptec or Qlogic, and make sure you can get a driver. I can’t speak for Windows 10, but Windows 7 had native support for SCSI drivers. PM me if I can assist further...

On the positive side vuescan claims to support the scanner under windows 10

https://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/microtek_artixscan_4000t_4000tf.html#

A couple of old reviews state the interface is scsi 2

you can get a usb to scsi adapter on amazon for £949 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adaptec-USB2Xchange-USB-SCSI-Adaptor/dp/B00006HYAR

I'm not finding anything for usb to scsi 2 which supports a scanner.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Adaptec-SCSI-Card-29160N-SCSI-2-Ultra160-SCSI-Card-32bit-PCI-High-Density-HD-50/264040113848?hash=item3d7a0466b8:g:PRAAAOSw-pNb7HHs:rk:12:pf:0

There are a few PCI cards around that might work with some pc's the old isa, eisa bus cards use a slot that is unlikely to be present.

there is this
https://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-Express-PCIE-To-PCI-Adapter-Card-Asmedia-1083-Chip-Riser-Extender-32bit/322618650495?hash=item4b1d91ef7f:g:x2AAAOSwvxZZearw:rk:2:pf:0

cheap enough ($8.40) and it gives a full size pci slot from a pci-e

It might work, I would be tempted to get in touch with the vuescan people, if anyone has a chance of knowing if this is viable, they would.

I still think the easiest route would be to pick up an old dell e.g

https://www.cnet.com/products/dell-optiplex-790/

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optiplex-790-Computer-i3-2120-3-3Ghz-4GB-Ram-250GB-Windows-10-B790-6/183584291205?hash=item2abe79f985:g:vdwAAOSwW~JcEsIC:rk:13:pf:0 Core i3 has 4gb ram and a free pci slot (maybe only suit low profile cards though).
$80

Best i can come up with , if your card is pci then that cheap adapter from china might work for you.

Good comments. I agree completely about the easiest path might be an older XP PC. VuScan is a good and well-regarded scanner ap. They supported my Polaroid Sprintscan SCSI film scanner, but it needs an ASPI to interface with the card, and Polaroid didn’t have one that would run under Windows 7/10. My concern would be that the same may be true with the 4000T. There are plenty of half length PCI SCSI cards - it’s SW (driver, ASPI, etc.) that can trip you up. I’m using an Adaptec 2940 UW which has a Win 7/10 compatible driver, but it’s a full length PCI card.
My ex[erience w/SCSI was scuzzy, totally meant in a derogatory way! Only got it to work w/remote tech help. Then again, I'm a dolt when it comes to computers.
There's a lot of electronics crammed into that simple looking adapter. But seriously, for less than half, you can get a newer USB 3.0 scanner.

The card is too wide. W/not fit the new case. I'd like to not have a card at all, just a USB connection to plug into one of my ports.

Might just do that, contact Microtek to see what they suggest. Thanks.
