you probably missed his post where he stated this was a shoot set up by a local camera store, which pretty much set the location the model and what she was wearing for the shoot...

I didn't miss it. But using that excuse will elicit the reply, "So you knew the [lighting/model/location/etc] was not optimum and you took the images anyway? So I'm supposed to judge your images on the same scale as this other artist who took pains to make sure everything was optimum?" In other words, there's no quarter asked, no quarter given.

As I neared retirement, many new photographers would ask me to critique their images. I always asked, "Do you want to improve or do you want me to make you feel warm and fuzzy?"

You were asked for an opinion on the work not what you think about tattoos or what she looks like. Why did you change the topic? That's not being very fair.

Since the OP stated, PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS. From pose to exposure to processing and EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN. I took these words to mean ALL thoughts on all aspects not limited to certain things. If he wanted just certain things commented on he should have stated exactly what he wanted.

Thank you for your kind critique and suggestions. That is exactly the type of response I was hoping for all along. Not criticism of model, tats, location or anything I had absolutely no control over. Just the technical aspect without being mean spirited and elitist. Double thumbs up to you!

If you only wanted comments on the technical aspects you should have stated that. You asked for : PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS. From pose to exposure to processing and EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN.

If you had asked for just the technical, that's what I would have commented on

I did say that. And I am so over the bickering. Not yours, but others.

I never thought I would see this kind of juvenile behavior from supposed grown assed adults.

You can bet your ass I will never EVER post here again looking for constructive criticism on anything new I try out. I've always gotten such wonderful critique on things I've submitted but this has turned me off totally from posting. What if this girl was my sister? Or my wife?

I'm not an artist or a professional. Never said I was. I am an amateur trying something completely out of my comfort zone. I had exactly an hour to do something I've never done before. With somebody I never met in a place I've never been to.

Don't worry, I will not be posting anything else here for you piranas to feed on. If breaking somebody down for trying something totally new and foreign and making them feel totally worthless while doing it was your primary goal, you've achieved that in spades.

WTF is the matter with you people??? You can all go take a flying F and shove your camera up your rear end. Then you can see if the lighting and subject matter produce a shot you'd be happy with.

Good riddance. Why don't you retire from the human race as well?

Very nice series of photos. As per others comments, her tattoos do not to me take away from her photos, personally I did not even take notice until reading others commenting on them. A few things to maybe point on. In the first photo the lace from her bra showing under her dress is a bit distracting, maybe it can be smoothed out in some photo shop. On the 5th photo maybe a bit more cropping to take out the photo frame or mirror in the background against the brick, It causes the eye to be distracted from your subject. My favorite is your eight shot, the black and white, absolutely stunning! Keep shooting my friend, we learn by doing!

From this reply it is painfully obvious that you didn’t want your word critiqued you wanted a bunch of slaps on the back. If you can’t handle criticism don’t ask people to comment on your photographs. I thought you really wanted to improve. Evidently that’s not at the top of your list. It was not my intent to tear you down as you say, but you asked for constructive criticism, and that's what I gave you. I didn't talk about her tattoos, or her appearance, or her clothes as others did.

Next time, to avoid being butthurt, try posting the line, "Here are some pictures I took, please comment on them only if you like them and PLEASE: no negative comments, because I'm a delicate flower, and my ego is fragile."

Skin. Thick skin. Thin skin. New skin, old skin. Who are we within our skins. How do we perceive other skins. And how do we handle getting skinned.
Photographers may show who others are, and/or who they are. Its all fine if we are honest about it. Honesty, with civility and well intentioned humanity. Tis that season, if nothing else. The beauty of photography is in there somewhere.

And the personal attack of the model continues. Going to try weaseling your way out of this one as well, canada BOY?

You've outed yourself as a mere troll. I suspect you suffer from posterior-cranium juxtaposition. Nothing has come out of your mouth but post-processed food.

I get your frustration that some percentage of the ensuing conversation focused on the model’s tattoos (which are so predominant, they are hard to ignore), but in re-reading the 9 pages of replies, I see many very good suggestions on improving your technique, a side discussion and the usual pissing contest over the tattoos and the model, but only one actually directed at you. So frankly, I just don’t see that this has been especially abusive toward to you. I’d focus on the positive suggestions on techniques, continue posting, and if you don’t want a side discussion on the model, either say so up front, choose posting in the pictures section, where there won’t be a critique, or choose to pose shots of a less controversial model in the future. Trust me, many, including myself, have received FAR more negative reactions to a post.

Cheers

I am sadden to read such nasty comments on this young Lady. I am a photographer. I have photographed many young girls and boys, men, and women with Tattoos. I personally don't have any Tats. A lot of my subjects do. I do not discriminate against the ones who do.
If someone hires me to photograph them with their Tattoos showing, I will do so. They hired me to photograph them, I will photograph them. There's nothing wrong with Tattoos. Yes the tattoos are a bit distracting. But, this is a photography forum. We post pictures to show our work and ask for CC. shame on people putting someone down for what they have done to their bodies. their choices, Not yours. Not your place to judge. So what if they
have tattooed or piercings done to their bodies, does that mean that they shouldn't have professional images done of them? We need to boost confidence, not knock them lower then what they may already feel about themselves. It's not our right to judge them. That young lady did not post these pictures of herself and you all and some of you are attacking her. A photographer posted these images. This is his first time shooting a live person. why don't you all just focus on the CC the lighting, depth of field, blurriness, clarity, posing, etc.
Calling someone trailer trash, etc, is just mean. I've lived in a mobile home for 13 years. (There's nothing wrong with living in mobile homes) by the way, they aren't trailers, they are mobiles. It was 16 hundred sq ft. 4 bedrooms, 2 large baths, it was very nice. Shame on you who ever brought up tailor trash comment. You all need to act like adults and be professional about it.
CC
Pictures need some really good editing. Lighting looks good. You do need to make sure that your subjects eyes are in focus. make sure your cropping properly. Watch out for to much background and where you are cropping. Remove distracting stuff in the picture. etc
you've done a wonderful job on your first live shoot. Practice makes perfect. keep shooting. I sure hope to see more images of yours. Happy holidays Kimberly

Well said, though I doubt the lass will care what some old men feel about her tattoos.
