Since Hoggers liked the online background removal app, I'll share another one that I've been using for several years. Not sure whether it's been posted here before, so please excuse possible redundancy.
"Algorithmia" is a computer vision algorithm trained on a million images from the Imagenet dataset. It converts black-and-white photos into colorized versions similar to old hand-tints.
Algorithmia is far from perfect, but it's capable of producing decent color likenesses. I think Algorithmia continually learns and improves itself.
This colorized example is from a 1948 kindergarten group picture. Yes, that's me.

I missed the background removal app. Where can I find it.

Tried this on a few photos and was not happy with the results. Since there were trees behind the people, the faces were made green.
