My current cameras have tempered glass screens that resist scratching.
When I got my first DSLR it came with a plastic protector for the screen. After about 4 months it was so scratched up that it was getting difficult to evaluate the image, and particularly in sunlight. I took it off and didn't replace it with anything and had no problems.

I don't think my tempered glass screens need protection. They have bounced around in my bag with all sorts of other stuff and I see no scratches. If you feel the need for protection, make sure that the protector is easily replaceable at reasonable cost. I suspect that the protectors are no better than the tempered glass on my cameras.

Also remember that there probably are no protectors out there that will protect against impact. They're there for scratches only.

I shoot with a Nikon D500. Do any Hoggers use any of the screen protectors available for this? Why or why not?

Why would you want to use a LCD screen protector?--simple:
1. protects the LCD from scratches and/or breakage--Do you have any idea how much a replacement LCD screen is and the repair cost?--very expensive
The problem with these protectors is that there are a lot of cheaply made ones on the market that really will protect the LCD.
I use the "Giottos" brand, available through B&H Photo for several reasons:
They have 12 layers of Schott glass in them , sandwiched with a clear plastic film--they will shatter, but your LCD will remain unharmed ,
They are cut to fit your model camera--exactly--no trimming necessary
You get the LCD protector AND a protector for the top information panel
The protectors are anti-glare and anti-static
There is absolutely NO distortion or color change with these protectors
Are they the cheapest available--NO , but then how much is you camera worth? I have three Nikons -I put the protector on my D3X in 2009 and have never had a problem.
Hope this helps you out..

Yes. I bought several for 2 Nikon d700's. The cleat wasn't deep enough so I used contact cememt on the small cleats that hold it, which so far is working. The generics came off twice at a wedding shoot. The monitor underneath feels like plastic to me and scratches will be permanent. Genuine protectors by Nikon are about $35 on ebay.

In many instances, I always default to "It's better to have and not need than to need and not have. With that said, I always use a screen protector (Nikon BM-5) on my 2 D70s's & just installed a Giottos Aegis Professional M-C Schott Glass LCD Screen Protector on my new D7200. The Giottos is a bit pricey @ $38.99 but the reviews that I read on several other brands were not as positive as the ones for the Giottos. A screen protector for the D7200 has to be one that adheres with a adhesive since there is not provisions for the snap on type. But alas...................to each their own.

A lot of photos dont put screen protectors on their 800 dollar iPhones??
I have a Sony a7s II which cost at the time 2700. Why wouldn't I put a
quality screen protector that does not have glare??

The problem with the Giottos, in my experience on my Canon 7D Mark II, was that each of the three I had on it cracked in one corner or the other within 3 months of use. My guess at the time was they will not laying flat enough on the LCD screen for some reason, and any pressure on the corners cause them to crack. After the third one failed I didn't bother with a 4th. I now use Kenko film LCD protectors which cost a fraction of the Giottos and literally disappear when on. I usually forget I have it on I have never had a problem of any kind with it.

Have Camera

I have always used a LCD protector and was fortunate to have one on my Nikon D5. One time when using my camera I apparently hit something, because when I looked at the screen the protector was cracked and not the LCD screen. I would highly recommend the protector, it is not that expensive and for me it worked.

I put them on all my cameras. Worth a couple bucks to save from scratches

Cracking was the one negative comments that I saw a few times in their reviews. The other attributes mentioned in Floridiaguy's previous post sort of swayed my thinking towards purchasing one. Time will tell I guess. It is a very thin pane of glass though. I wish that Nikon had made and supplied their own snap on protector though. Can't have it all I guess.

I use one. I don’t use the LCD much and an unscratched LCD will enhance resale value if I sell the body.

I am extremely careful with my cameras. I protect my LCD screens definitely. The worst could be an unintentional scratch. Not only are the LCD screens hard to repair they will get expensive if it needs to be repaired. Good luck getting the repair covered by insurance. I little glare can be blocked by a LCD hood. They cost about $150. So you get a nose smudge. That is what lens paper is for!

Nikon's BM-11 LCD protector for the D7000 is still available. B & H Photo has them. I have a D7000 and purchased a few extra ones for it. I don't know about a glass screen protector for it though.

Put LCD screen protectors on both my D7100 and D850 as I was setting them up new out of the box. Cheap insurance is right!
