Really...was this comment necessary?
Completely agree with theaverlo! But, just so's you know, physicians do the actual colonoscopy, and in most centers, a complete knock out is accomplished safely by an anesthetist, so you won't know or feel a thing. Just get through the test prep!
You got that right. The studying the day before is really bad.

couple years ago I was at Duke being tested for thyroid cancer in the lymph nodes of my neck. I could watch in the monitor what they were doing. The right side went fine. but when they got to the left side the anesthesia was not working. I felt everything. Did they stop and shoot me up again? HELL NO. They told me to hang in there. I could see the needle try to pierce the node and the node kept sliding to the right or sliding to the left. I bet it took him 10 minutes of jiggling the needle around to finish the job. Talk about a torture chamber.

The procedure is a cake walk compared to the prep. lol
I went through the same miserable procedure the first colonoscopy. But for the next one I went to a specialist. He handed me a bottle of Citrate of Magnesia. It actually tastes pretty good and worked very well. That was it! Why are so many Doctors making us suffer so? That citrate has been around for a hundred years.

As I recall, in my past colonoscopies, it's not the test you have to sweat... it's the studying for it the day before that's the real nightmare!
I think it is a physical test the day before - you just have to out run the need for the toilet! lol
Magnesium citrate was what I was prescribed for my first colonoscopy and I agree that it was a snap compared to what I had to consume for the next one (ten years later). But I was told by the GI physicians I worked with (I am a retired anesthetist) that Mag citrate is associated with renal failure (acute dehydration), and was no longer the prep recommended. I am due for my next exam in 2019 and am going to do some research on this. The docs said I was lucky that I did not have ill effects from the mag citrate, and that the older one is the more likely the renal failure.
Good news. Apparently, because many people did not "study" that well the day before, now you have to study 2 days. Enjoy!!
I was 82 when prescribed for Citrate of Magnesia. No ill effects at all.

You are all making me very nervous. I am scheduled to have my very first colonoscopy in February, and this post did not help one bit.
I have something that will loosen you up. Search Youtube for the video "The Colonoscopy Song" by Peter Yarrow. Quite humorous. It is also called the "Ode to the Colorectal Surgeon."

Don't worry about it. It won't be bad cuz you'll be out cold (and at the mercy of the attendants to the festivities). The bad part is drinking the stuff the night before that will cleanse your system. I've heard they have improved the drink so good luck.
