I took several pictures of each of us posing against a grey background, using soft boxes. I don't use green because the green will reflect off the paper and onto the subject. Then I cut our images out in photoshop. I have hundreds of backgrounds I buy from various places. In the layers panel I used the background on the bottom layer, then I placed our images and resized them on the second and third layers. That's the easy explanation.

Fun and well done! Very cool about you two doing school together. If I remember my academic colors you were doing graduate work in law or divinity, in any case a playful start to your postgraduate selves. Congratulations to both of you!
